Shadow Decker: Letter from Miss Waverly

Hello, I am Shadow Decker, 1997-98 Miss Waverly.

I am a freshman at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson.
In the fall of 1998, I will be transferring to the University
of Wisconsin – River Falls (UWRF). At UWRF, I will be working
toward a major in accounting-business and a minor in dance.

I am now employed at Shelly’s Dance Academy
in Delano as an assistant dance instructor. I also take dance
classes at Shelly’s. This year I am in technique, jazz, lyrical,
tap, a trio and a duet. While representing Waverly this summer,
I also worked at Wagner Spray Tech in Plymouth.

A few of my hobbies include: dancing, talking
on the phone, watching movies and being on the go.

As Waverly’s ambassador, I’ve visited many
neighboring communities such as: Hopkins, Rockford, Silver Lake,
Winsted, Cokato, Dassel, Montrose and in October, Anoka. When
in these communities, I have participated in parades, luncheons,
and coronations.

At these events, I’ve had the opportunity to
invite people to our great town of Waverly and invite them to
our Waverly Daze celebration.

As an ambassador of Waverly, I have also done
quite a bit of community service. I’ve cleaned the city offices,
helped earn money for Funkley, helped the KCs at a pancake breakfast,
helped serve pork chops, helped serve root beer floats and cleaned
up around Waverly Lake.

Since being crowned Miss Waverly, I have learned
a lot about Waverly I never knew before. Everyone is really friendly.
Since I live in the country, I really never traveled to town.
But now that I’m in town quite often, everyone is real nice and
always gives a friendly hello.

Waverly also comes together as a town. When
ina crisis everyone is willing to help, like when the Humphrey
Museum burned down, or to raise money for the town of Funkley.

I can’t believe all the support our town has.
I just have one last thing to say, I am proud to be an ambassador
of Waverly and I appreciate everyone who has made this possible.
