Dr. Bryan Petersen to practice at Winsted Medical Clinic

Dr. Bryan T. Petersen, a family practice physician who joined the staff of Glencoe Medical Clinic, P.A. in August, will also be practicing at the Winsted Medical Clinic. Petersen joins Dr. Dennis Jacobson and Dr. Donald Kjome in providing family medical care to Winsted and the surrounding area.

Petersen is a board-certified family practice physician with special interest in obstetrics. Area residents may remember him from four years ago, when he spent nine months at the Glencoe Medical Clinic as a Rural Physician Associate Program (RPAP) student.

Petersen attended the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his internship and residency at Sioux Falls Family Practice Residency Program in Sioux Falls, S.D. He served as chief resident as a third year resident.

An identical twin, Peterson was born in St. Paul, Minn., and moved to Solway, Minn. and central North Dakota while growing up. He comes by his aptitude for helping people naturally, as his mother is a nurse and his father was a pastor.

Peterson attended high school just outside of Sioux Falls, S.D. During high school and the early years of college, he planned to go into veterinary medicine, mainly because he had grown up in a rural community. After working in a sales position, he decided he would rather work more closely with people, and so decided to become a physician.

"I chose family practice because I wanted to practice in a rural setting. I enjoy all the different aspects of medicine and I enjoy taking care of patients of all ages," said Petersen. "OB (obstetrics) is important in providing care to the whole family. It's exciting and I like getting up a 2 a.m. to deliver a baby."

In addition to obstetrics, he enjoys doing medical procedures and performs flexible sigmoidoseopy for colon cancer screening and colposcopy for cervical cancer screening.

Petersen, his wife Krista, and their two children, Morgan and Teddy, are happy to return to Glencoe.

"We enjoyed the town of Glencoe, the people and the medical practice," said Peterson. "I look forward to raising my family in Glencoe and being part of the community. I also hope to be an asset to the medical community."
