LP man discharges firearm in apartment



A firearm was discharged in an apartment building behind
The Depot gas station shortly before midnight Saturday, May 8, according
to the Lester Prairie Police Department.

Upon arriving at the scene at the 75 Kennedy Avenue apartments,
Officer Ryan Moonen was informed that shots had been heard.

A number of departments were called in to assist with the
matter, including the emergency response teams from McLeod County, Glencoe,
and Hutchinson as well as Ridgeview Ambulance Service of Waconia and the
Lester Prairie and Winsted fire departments.

For safety, two apartment building and several homes in
the vicinity were evacuated.

The Lester Prairie Police Department entered the apartment
with assisting emergency response teams.

By 3:10 a.m., the suspect, Mitchell John Flatgard, 31,
of Lester Prairie, was in custody and placed under arrest without further
incident.

He was transported to the McLeod County jail, and a criminal
complaint was filed against him for reckless discharge of a firearm within
a municipality.
