Keyes is new chief

By Lynda Jensen

Howard Lake Police Officer Lenny Keyes recently accepted the chief of police position offered by the City of Howard Lake.

Keyes will start the position July 4. His salary was set at $44,373.

Current Chief Mike Simmons plans to retire Aug. 1, which will allow some overlapping time to train Keyes in, Mayor Gerry Smith said.

Keyes has been with the department for 14 years, going to full-time status in December 1989.
