Fire destroys barn south of Waverly

Brent and Constance Carter’s horse barn on 75th Street,
south of Waverly, is a total loss after fire consumed the building Sept.
28.

“By the time we got there, the roof was starting to
collapse,” said Waverly Fire Chief Mark Karels. “There was nothing
we could save.”

The Howard Lake Fire Department sent mutual aid, but was
not on scene long, Karels said. The blaze was called in at about 10:10 p.m.

In the barn were several saddles and bridles that were
destroyed. Three horses were located alive out in the field.

“Luckily the horses were outside,” Karels said.
“There were no animals inside the barn.”

It is believed the fire was electrical, but that has not
been determined at this time, Karels said.

There was some remodeling taking place in the barn, said
Wright County Chief Deputy Don Lindell.

“It is not suspicious,” Karels added.
