Today marks the first day of summer. It’s a time of the year when most people enjoy having picnics and barbecues, fishing, swimming, outdoor yard games, making travel plans, enjoying parades, going to the zoo, or simply laying back and relaxing in a lawn chair.

Any way you look at it, we want to be outdoors taking in that bright sunshine.

Many garden beds are displaying a variety of flowers, each flower characterizing that ray of beauty surrounded by all the many colors.

Children are splashing and bobbing up and down in the water at the beaches and making that favorite sand castle.

Friends and family gather together at parks to reminisce about bygone yesterdays, or get reacquainted with people they haven’t seen in awhile.

We watch our gardens grow day by day, waiting for that first vegetable to be in our hand or ready for a salad.

The fishermen are eager to get the biggest catch of the day. They set their bobber and the line goes sailing, in wonderment of what they will catch on their line.

In time, the fishermen are happy with their basket or stringer of fish waiting to be cleaned, and then into the pan to be fried and eaten.

The zoos are filled with excited children waiting to pet an animal, take in a ride, or have an ice cream treat.

Outdoor games are a hit, the challenge behind each game played, and all the oohs and ahhs that surround the rules of that game.

Some go for walks on the trail to get in a little fresh air, or one-on-one chit-chat before sundown.

The birds are flying back and forth chirping at each other, and then into their nest they go.

The kids bicycle in groups, accompanied by a lot of fun and laughter.

Then there are some who enjoy the relaxation of the lawn chair and a gentle breeze that flows over them.

It’s just that time of the year – time to get rid of that cabin fever from within, spread our wings, and have a little fun or relaxation in the outdoor sun.
