Wright County Fair to honor veterans Aug. 4

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – For the first time, the Wright County Fair will host Military Day Saturday, Aug. 4, honoring veterans and military personnel.

On that day, military members, veterans, and their families will be given free entrance and parking to the fair.

All of the VFWs and American Legions throughout Wright County will be participating in a program at the fairgrounds, which begins at 1 p.m. that day, with the posting of the colors.

The program will also include the singing of the national anthem, taps, a 21-gun salute, the folding of the flag by Wright County Boy Scout troops, music by the Mid-Minnesota Concert Band, and a number of speakers.

“It’s tough for young kids coming back (from Iraq and Afghanistan),” said veteran and Wright County Fair Board Member John Quirk. “This is a way to promote (the local VFWs and American Legions) – let them know there are organizations they can belong to where everybody has been in the same boat.”

He noted that the local organizations, particularly the VFWs, are places veterans can come to find someone to talk to who can relate to their experience.
