LESTER PRAIRIE, MN Lester Prairie Police Chief Bob Carlson has released information regarding the damage to the Lester Prairie Veterans Memorial in Central Square Park.
Ronald Gantner, 54, of Lester Prairie, has, according to Carlson, admitted his involvement in the accident involving the memorial that happened Friday, Aug.12.
The memorial sustained damage when a pickup truck driven by Gatner struck one of the monuments, knocking it over, and causing a large chunk of one of the corners to break.
The Lester Prairie Police Department has recommended the charges of Misdemeanor Hit-and-Run Accident (failure to notify owner of property damages) and Failure to Drive with Due Care.
Gatner does have vehicle insurance, and the insurance company has been notified and a claim to fix the monument has been processed according to Carlson.
The estimated total cost of replacement, according to Chester Hoernemann, Lester Prairie Legion Post 463 commander, is about $6,000.
