From its modest beginnings in 1994, the annual festival has grown into the area’s premier event, attracting about 18,000 fans – roughly eight times as many people as Winsted’s population.

The 1994 event was headlined by Waylon Jennings and Crystal Gayle, along with Winsted native Paulette Carlson who rose to the top of the country music scene with the band Highway 101.

In 1998, the festival moved south across County Road 5 to its permanent location where it continued to expand. Each year, facilities were improved.

Part of the experience is the camping on the grounds, with more than 4,000 campsites being sold this year.

Of course, Winstock – a fundraiser for Holy Trinity Schools – owes much of its success to the numerous volunteers who work a variety of tasks throughout the weekend. Some are on duty during the entire festival, and have done so year after year.
