Super Bowl ads filmed locally

Two television commercials that ran before the third quarter of the Super Bowl Feb. 3 were filmed at the United Express Cenex convenience store at the intersection of Highway 7 and Carver County Road 33 near New Germany.

One commercial depicted a father showing his daughter how to check the oil in his car using a dipstick, a word she thought was hilarious. “Life Lessons” could be read on the screen as they drove away from the Cenex convenience store in New Germany.

The other commercial showed 14 people rushing from an RV during a pit stop to go to the bathroom at the convenience store.

The two regional 15-second ads ran in nine states, and were created by Colle McVoy.

Costs for a time slot for a national Super Bowl ad continue to spike, with this year hitting a record $5.25 million for a 30-second spot.

“For regional, it’s a fraction of the cost, so you can feel like you are on the big stage as a brand,” McVoy explained.
