HLWW School District 2687 Board Minutes

Monday, March 10, 2003 8:00 P.M.

The Special School Board Meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 8:03 p.m. on March 10, 2003. After the Pledge of Allegiance, roll was taken with members present: James Fowler, Ken Zimmerman, Charles Weber, Jim Raymond, Al Doering, and John Lideen, Charlie Borrell arrived at 8:05; none were absent. Also present were Superintendent George Ladd, Principal Mike Day, Bookkeeper Judi Salonek; and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.

Chair Raymond opened the floor to consider approving the agenda of the March 10, 2003 Special School Board meeting. Ladd asked if items one and two could be switched around; Weber moved to approve the agenda with the change; Fowler seconded; passed unanimously.

Ladd asked the Board to review the What we are proud of communication, and let Vivian Mahlstedt, coordinator for Laker Pride know of any changes or additions.

There were no requests from the public.

(Item 1) Ehlers & Associates representatives Kristen Anderson and Melissa Stirn gave a brief presentation, and answered several questions about an operating levy.

(Item 2) Lee Meyer from KKE Architects reviewed and discussed information gathered at the public meetings. Ladd asked the Board if they would like Lee Meyer to find out what the costs would be for the additions to the red option. Consensus, yes. Lee Meyer commented that he had Halberg Engineering ready to look at the Waverly gym, and a technology consultant working on dollar figures for all the site locations.

Robert Merritt inquired about the auditorium, and what was going to be done at the high school site. Merritt stated that there is not enough room for parents at an 11th and 12th grade concert in the auditorium.

Lee Meyer concluded that he would need to find out what the dollars would be for the additions; bus garage, technology, gym, and bring more information from Ehlers on the tax base. Lideen also asked for the cost of the land and ball fields. Meyer said he would gather this information for the April Board Meeting.

(Item 3) Ladd gave a brief overview of the preliminary budget for 2003-2004. Ladd reported that the budget reflects no increase in revenue and expenditures; it is basically the same as this years budget.

(Item 4) Superintendent reports: Ladd reported the next Regular School Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, March, 17, 2003 at 8:00pm at the Winsted Elementary Gymnasium.

Weber moved to adjourn the meeting; Zimmerman seconded; adjourned at 10:05 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Allen Doering, Clerk
