HLWW School District 2687 Board Minutes

The February 9, 2009 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD#2687 was called to order at 5:01 pm. by Chairman Schaible. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Doering, Heuer, Tintes, Weber, and Schaible; absent: Weibel. Also present were Superintendent George Ladd, Principals Mike Day, and Jennifer Olson; Financial Consultant Bill Holmgren, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Schaible asked to move the principal reports before Item VIII, Subd. A-FFA Department Report.
Wiech motioned to approve the agenda with the change of the principal reports given before Item VIII, Subd. A-FFA Department Report; Doering seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from the visitors
(Item VI) Doering read the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes the following middle school students of the month for January: David Cox, Erica Wessling, Katie Kruzel, Nathan Neumann, Casey Marketon, Sam Holte, Abby Roufs, Amanda Wiedewitsch, Garrett Wiegert, Daire Buttruff, Caitlin Burke, Darren Jones, Andrew Warnke, Erin Kamann. The theme was “Positive Attitude.” These students were picked because they exhibit good habits of self-discipline. They are role models for other students to follow their examples of self-awareness and control. As Students of the Month they were invited to have breakfast with the principal, Mr. Sellner. They also received a certificate and have their pictures displayed on the Middle School bulletin board. Congratulations to everyone!
The School Board recognizes Melanie and Brian Lawrence who donated several thousand dollars worth of hydraulic workout equipment to the middle school to be used in the physical education setting of ISD #2687. Thank you very much for your support to the district with this generous donation.
The School Board recognizes Barb and Mike Steffer who donated many books to our middle school classroom libraries. Thank you very much for your donation to the district.
Doering motioned to approve the recognitions as read; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII) Wiech motioned to approve the consent; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item IX, Subd. A) Principal Olson and Day gave a brief report.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) FFA advisor Jim Weninger introduced the advanced parliamentary team and gave a brief synopsis of the procedures. The team gave a demonstration on parliamentary procedures.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Wiech motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. C) Doering motioned to approve the revised budget for 2008-2009; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. D) Heuer motioned to approve expenditures; Wiech seconded; Weber asked why are we over what we bonded for; Schaible said it was from interest on the loans; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. E) Doering motioned to approve Leisure Time Mowing for the Waverly site, Aagro-Green for the High School Site, FFA Department for Winsted Elementary site, and around the building at the high school, and the custodial staff at the middle school site; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
Doering motioned to approve Leisure Time Mowing for weed control and fertilizing at all sites excluding the varsity athletic fields; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously
(Item IX, Subd. A) This information was given before Item VIII, Subd. A
(Item IX, Subd. B) Each Board member gave committee updates.
(Item IX, Subd. C) Superintendent Ladd gave a brief report.
