HLWW School District 2687 Board Minutes

The December 12, 2011 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD#2687 was called to order at 6:03pm. by Chairman Schaible. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Schaible, Heuer, Wiech, Tintes, Kocher, Weber, and Weibel. Also present were Principals Mike Day, Jim Schimelpfenig, and Jennifer Olson; Superintendent Brad Sellner, SMS Financial Consultant Todd Netzke, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Todd Netzke, SMS Financial Consultant, presented the Truth in Taxation hearing.
(Item V) Heuer motioned to approve the agenda; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VI) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VII) Wiech motioned to approve the consent agenda which included minutes from the November 14, 2011 Regular School Board meeting, December bills, enrollment, the family leave request for Amber Hlavka starting approximately April 1, 2012 for the remainder of the 2011-12 school year; the resignation of Leon Zellmann, as the high school lead custodian effective December 16, 2011, Communications: Elementary Laker News, and Operating Levy vs Cost per $100K of Tax Value and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes Kris Uter and Otten Bros. in Long Lake for the donation of over 1,500 bulbs to the FFA, for the retaining wall east of the greenhouse worth thousands of dollars. Thank you for your donation to the district.
The School Board recognizes Andy Thorson who donated hauling fertilizer to the FFA garden, Diers Corporation for donating black dirt, Steve Weber for donated hauling black dirt to the FFA garden and Kevin Gruenhagen and Wayne Birkholz for tilling the FFA crop plot. Thank you for your donations to the FFA and the district.
The School Board recognizes the cast, crew, and pit band, and directors of “Guys and Dolls”. Congratulations to everyone on another successful s how.
The School Board recognizes teachers Shawna Moe and Jackie Kuehn who will be honored as TIES Exceptional Teachers at the opening session of the TIES 2011 Education Technology Conference. Congratulations Shawna and Jackie. Keep up the good work.
The School Board recognizes Dawn Kalvig and Winsted Elementary 1st and 2nd grade students, staff, and many volunteers that made the Winter Music program a huge success. Your time and talents made for wonderful performances.
The School Board recognizes Partners In Education (PIE) for its donation to support the Donuts for Dads Muffins for Moms Event at each elementary school. Thank you for supporting our schools.
The School Board recognizes Millerbernd Manufacturing Co. for donating a stainless steel bumper plate for the high school receiving door. Thank you for your donation and support of the school district.
Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Wiech motioned to approve the 2010-2011 audit report which included the student activity account; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Tintes motioned to approve the December treasurers report; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. C) Heuer motioned to approve the final 2011 payable 2012 levy limitation and certification; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. D) Principal Olson reviewed the speech language teacher request. The board members discussed the request.
(Item VIII, Subd. E) Superintendent Sellner reviewed the request for a .2 Social Worker/SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) request.
(Item VIII, Subd. F) Superintendent Sellner summarized the information from the principal hire board committee.
(Item VIII, Subd. G) Superintendent Sellner reported he is still obtaining estimates from vendor for updating the web site. He also indicated Laker Pride and PIE had large laker clothing orders and they are discussing the possibilities of a store with laker apparel.
(Item IX, Subd. A) Principal Day gave a brief report.
Principal Schimelpfenig gave a brief report.
Principal Olson gave a brief report.
(Item IX, Subd. B) Each board member gave a brief committee report.
(Item IX, Subd. C) Superintendent Sellner gave a brief report.

Wiech motioned to adjourn at 7:05 pm; Weibel seconded; passed unanimously.
