Schaible allowed the visitor, Katie Heber, to speak, as they were waiting for another board member to arrive.
(Item V) Katie Heber asked for support from the school board for cheerleading, dance, and possible competitive cheerleading. Heber said they would like to initiate a fall and winter cheer club.
The August 12, 2013 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:35 pm. by Chairman Schaible. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Schaible, Smith, Wiech, and Heuer; absent: Weibel, Kocher, and Tintes. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, Principals Jason Mix, Jim Schimelpfenig, and Jennifer Olson, SMS Financial Consultant Donna Wilson and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Heuer motioned to approve the agenda; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VI) Heuer motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the July 8, 2013 Regular Board meeting minutes, July 22, 2013 Work Session meeting minutes, July 29, 2013 Special Board meeting minutes, August Bills, the resignation of Sara Minnich as the AM School Age Care Supervisor at Humphrey Elementary effective July 12, 2013, Karen Lueck as para at Winsted Elementary effective July 19, 2013, Suzanne Brazil-Geyshick as a bus driver effective August 7, 2013; and the retirement of Judi Salonek as Business Manager effective July 31, 2013, the employment of Ado Poel as 1⁄2 AM Route driver beginning the 2013-14 school year; and James Carr as a Reading Intervention teacher, the following communications: Back to school packet-mailed July 29th, School Calendar 2013-14, Fall Laker-mailed August 12th to district residents, and the following recognition:
The School Board recognizes all the staff, students, FFA workers and volunteers, who make sure our buildings are ready for the students in the fall. Thank you very much for your determination and hard work again this year.
Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Superintendent Sellner reviewed the principal evaluation process.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Wiech motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Smith seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) The consensus of the board is to move forward with Ehlers recommendations to accept the location equity.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Wiech motioned to adopt the resolution calling for the November 5, 2013 election; Heuer seconded; those in favor: Smith, Wiech, Heuer, and Schaible; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Superintendent Sellner reported the referendum committee met and discussed how to present the information about the upcoming building referendum. The committee recommended creating a brochure, a power point presentation, videos, a one page hand out outlining the project, holding a community meeting, and attending open houses and home sporting events.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Heuer motioned to approve Marilyn Greeley and Donna Wilson as additional check signers for the Community Ed account per audit recommendations; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) The Policy Committee recommends the first reading of policies. Superintendent Sellner asked for approval of policy 524-Internet Use, based upon the changes recommended.
Wiech motioned to approve policy 524; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Principal Olson gave a report.
Principal Mix gave a report.
Principal Schimelpfenig gave a report.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Each board member gave a committee update.
(Item VIII, Subd. C) Superintendent Sellner gave a report.
(Item IX) Next Meeting Dates:
