HLWW School District 2687 Board Minutes

The November 12, 2013 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD#2687 was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Chairman Schaible. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Schaible, Tintes, Smith and Heuer; Kocher arrived at 6:16 p.m.; Wiech and Weibel were absent. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, Principals Jason Mix, Jim Schimelpfenig, and Jennifer Olson, Dean of Students Jason Kuehn; SMS Financial Consultant Donna Wilson and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Schaible asked to remove Item E-Superintendent Goals. Heuer motioned to approve the agenda as changed; Smith seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) Charlie Bush asked about a possible recount of the election. Schaible responded the figures have been checked and verified according to the guidelines and requirements. Bush requested to have the figures of the cost of the election at the next meeting. Sellner clarified the recount process and also indicated that a verification process is always done.
(Item VI) Heuer motioned to approve the consent agenda which included October 14, 2013 Regular Board meeting minutes, November Bills, except for check #32387, enrollment, the maternity leave for Kim Looman starting approximately May 27, 2014-June 6, 2014; and retirement of custodian Romey Decker, effective December 15, 2013, employment of Kelly Utne, as School Age Care Assistant at Winsted Elementary, starting October 28, 2013, second reading on the following policies: 305-Policy Implementation, 508-Extended School Year for Students with IEP’s, 511-Student Fundraising, 525-Violence Prevention, 534-Food Service Policy/Procedures, 606-Textbooks and Instructional Materials, 607-Organization of Grade Levels, Communications: MSBA Board Member Training, Elementary Laker News, and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes those who helped out with the 4th Annual Senior Citizen Fine Arts Concert: Laker Pride Coordinators Adam Koeppe and Kathy Leukuma, Chris Starr, and Stephanie Dailey who helped make the Community Concert a great success. Many people from our communities were able to come and enjoy the performance at the high school. Thank you to everyone who made this a wonderful experience for all those who were able to attend.
The School Board recognizes the teachers honored recently at the 22nd annual Leadership in Educational Excellence (LEEA) banquet: Amy Ohlemacher-Lonetti, Leah Jenzen and Gretchen Karg. This annual event sponsored by Resource Training and Solutions, honors educators for their dedication to teaching and inspiring students. We congratulate you on this accomplishment, and thank you for your commitment to students of this district.
The School Board recognizes Kayti Heber and Kassie Gibbons for volunteering to be the advisors for the cheerleading program. Thank you for all the time and work you put with the cheerleaders.
The School Board recognizes the FFA students and advisor, Jim Weninger, for representing the district at the national conference. Congratulations on another successful FFA year, and good luck at the national convention.
The School Board recognizes the fall coaches for their hard work, time, and commitment to students and the district. Congratulations on another successful fall sports season at HLWW Schools.

(Item VII, Subd. A) Several FFA students gave a presentation about the National Convention in Louisville Kentucky.
Tintes motioned to approve check 32387; Heuer seconded; Smith abstained; passed by majority.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Heuer motioned to approve the 2012-13 audit; Smith seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Heuer motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Tintes motioned to adopt the resolution to canvass the November 5, 2013 election; Heuer seconded; those in favor: Smith, Kocher, Tintes, Heuer, and Schaible; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Tabled until next meeting.
(Item VII, Subd. F) The Policy Committee recommends the first reading of the following policies: 425-Staff Development, 530-Immunization Requirements, 601- School District Curriculum and Instruction Goals.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Principal Olson gave a report.
Principal Schimelpfenig gave a report.
Principal Mix gave a report.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) There were no committee reports.
(Item VIII, Subd. C) Superintendent Sellner gave a report.
Heuer motioned to move the January 13, 2014 Regular Board Meeting to Monday January 6, 2014; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item IX) Next Meeting Dates:

Tintes motioned to close the closed meeting at 8:29 p.m.; Smith seconded; passed unanimously.
Heuer motioned to open the regular meeting at 8:30 p.m.; Smith seconded; passed unanimously.
Tintes motioned to adjourn at 8:31 p.m.; Kocher seconded; passed unanimously.
