After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Heuer, Tintes, Smith Kocher, Bush, and Diers. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, Activities Director Scott Berning, Community Education Director Margaret Marketon, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Heuer motioned to approve the agenda; Smith seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI, Subd, A) The board discussed the Facility Use Policy and fees; and suggested some changes. Sellner indicated we would like to have this approved by March so we have enough time to contact those who would be effected by the changes, and implement the changes by fall 2015.
(Item VI, Subd, B) Sellner indicated Wright Tech has a meeting February 3rd and asked if someone was interested in attending. Diers indicated he was interested in being the Wright Tech representative. Wiech asked if anyone else was interested; no one replied. Tintes said he would be the alternative. Wiech assigned Diers as the Wright Tech Center representative, and Tintes as the alternate. Sellner asked if there were members interested in attending any of the upcoming February appearances. Kocher said she will be at Snow Fest; Tintes said he would be at the February 12th Honors Breakfast; Kocher and Diers said they would attend the FFA Pot Luck.
(Item VI, Subd, C) Bush asked how many student days are mandated. Sellner responded 174 days by contract, however students are required to attend a certain number of hours now based upon state law and not days. Bush asked why the seniors don’t get done early. Sellner responded it is at the discretion of the High School Principal. Tintes asked to build in snow days at the end of the school year.
(Item VI, Subd, D) Sellner reviewed the history of the fund balance budget. Sellner also indicated the budget was based upon 15 students more than we have. Sellner reported he will be working with Donna Wilson and Todd Netzke from SMS to get the budget updated and revised. Sellner also reported we are also looking into duplications when we move the middle school to the high school site; nothing would impact programs, information will be brought to the February meeting.
(Item VI, Subd, E) Sellner asked if there were any questions about the teacher degree advancement that was presented at the last meeting. There were no questions from members.
(Item VI, Subd, F) Sellner indicated the board can fill an upcoming vacancy by appointment. Consideration for appointment could include taking applications, contact a previous member, or the next highest vote getter from the last election. Sellner suggested the board discuss and think about how they want to proceed and at the next meeting decide on the process it wants to take.
(Item VI, Subd, G) Wiech reported MAWSECO revised the Joint Powers Agreement. Sellner indicated the project is similar to Wright Tech Center meaning if a district left MAWSECO they are still obligated to make payments for the 15 year term. Tintes asked if all the districts were on board with the project. Wiech reported the superintendents from all the districts indicated they were on board with the project.
