BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING
Monday, May 11, 2015
HLWW HS Media Center
The May 11, 2015 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:03p.m.. by Chairperson Wiech. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Heuer, Tintes, Diers, Bravinder and Kocher; absent: Bush. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Heuer motioned to approve the agenda; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Wiech reported the building project bills are at your table. Bravinder motioned to approve the consent agenda; April 13, 2015 Regular Board Meeting, April 27, 2015 Work Session Meeting, May bills, building project bills, May enrollment, the resignation of Amanda Delude, as Head Gymnastics Coach effective May 11, 2015; Regina Sherod as Asst. Gymnastics Coach effective May 11, 2015; and Dan Herda as Asst. Girls Basketball Coach effective May 11, 2015; Amanda Byrne as Prom Advisor effective the end of the 2014-15 school year; and Shannon Dalbec as a middle school para, employment recommendations: Emily Kieser as the 7-8 Grade Math Teacher effective 2015-16 school year, the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes HLWW Students of Excellence: Students of Excellence are: Lindsay Marketon, Abbey Weninger, Hannah Thompson, Russell Bayerl, and Jackson Triplett. Students were chosen from among high schools in Central Minnesota and were honored at the annual Students of Excellence Banquet with parents and teachers sponsored by Resource Training and Solutions. Congratulations to these students for achieving this recognition.
The School Board recognizes all the FFA members who attended the Minnesota FFA Convention. We are proud of your accomplishments, and congratulations to the following who placed: State Champion Best Informed Greenhand team: Kylee Sherod, Brennan Barth, Zach Uter, Jordyn Tuchtenhages, Savanna Weber, Sarah Mauk, Kaitlyn Decker and Jenna Benson; Champion Nursery Landscape team: Zach Uter, Brennan Barth, Amanda Olson and Chase Lange; and the following State Degree Recipients: Russell Bayerl, Liam Fury, Jackson Triplett, Lucas Hauladen, Andrew Kieser, Benton Miller, Josie Bakeberg, Katie Utne, Abbey Weninger, and Lindsay Marketon. Congratulations to everyone.
The School Board recognizes Bradley Miller and the Pitstop for donating $100 to the Trap Shooting Program. Thank you for your donation.
The School Board recognizes Howard Lake Sportsmen’s Club for donating $750 to the Trap Shooting Program. Thank you for your donation.
The second reading and approval of the following policies: 401-Equal Employment Opportunity; 402-Disability Nondiscrimination; 406-Public & Private Personnel Data; 407-Employee Right To Know-Exposure to Hazardous Substances; 704-Develop.m.ent & Maintenance of an Inventory of Fixed Assets; and 802-Disposition of Obsolete Equip.m.ent & Material, and the Elementary Laker News, and Teaching Today Spring 2015 Volume 2, Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Rob Gemelke, from Kraus Anderson, gave an update on the middle school project.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Diers motioned to approve PCO # 77-Hand Dryers; Kocher seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Heuer motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Bravinder motioned to approve the 2015-16 budget with the increase to the high school choir position to full time; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Heuer motioned to approve KDV for 3 years as our audit firm; Kocher seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Tintes motioned to approve a 10 cent increase for school lunches starting the 2015-16 school year; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) Tintes motioned to approve the MAWSECO lease agreements for the STEP, TREK, Journeys Programs, and the Central Office; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. H) Superintendent Sellner reviewed the information from Principal Mix regarding the last day for the seniors will be June 2, 2015.
(Item VII, Subd. I) Superintendent Sellner indicated the district has requested estimates for fuel, waste removal/recycling and commodities (milk & bread) based upon what we currently have and there may be some adjustments when we open the new middle school and the MAWSECO project is completed.
(Item VII, Subd. J) Superintendent Sellner suggested having an open house at the old middle school building right after the Work Session, Tuesday May 26, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.. Sellner reported this will allow public to come in view the building before demolition takes place. The consensus of the board was to hold an open house May 26, 2015 at 7p.m.
(Item VII, Subd. K) Heuer motioned to rescind the resolution relating to school board action on an employee; Tintes seconded; Wiech read the resolution; those in favor: Kocher, Diers, Bravinder, Tintes, Heuer and Wiech; those opposed: none; absent: Bush; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. L) Tintes motioned to approve the Fund Balance Policy 714; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. M) Superintendent Sellner reported the Policy Committee reviewed policy 902-Facilities & Equip.m.ent. Sellner indicated letters have been sent to groups regarding the proposed fee schedule and we have invited them to meet with us to discuss the fee schedule. Sellner reported we would like to have something in place by the time school starts.
(Item VII, Subd. N) Superintendent Sellner reported we will be holding a garage sale June 11-13, for those items we are not moving to the new facility.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) The Principals gave written reports.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) The School Board Committees gave written reports.
(Item VIII, Subd.
