HLWW BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING
Monday, April 11, 2016
HLWW HS Media Center
The April 11, 2016 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:01 p.m. by Chairperson Wiech. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Heuer, Bush, Diers, Bravinder and Kocher. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Wiech reported to add two items to the consent agenda: Building Project bills and an article from Mr. Bush.
Diers motioned to approve the agenda with the additions; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors
(Item VI) Heuer motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the March 14, 2016 Regular Board Meeting minutes, March 28, 2016 Work Session Minutes, April bills, and Building Project bills, April enrollment, the resignations of Sandy Fleischmann as a Para at Winsted Elementary effective April 15, 2016; Renee Goerdt as a High School Social Studies Teacher effective the end of 2015-16 school year; Danielle Miller as Asst. Girls Basketball Coach; and Kelsi Hogg as Head Volleyball Coach, the following lane change requests: Troy Guentzel from MA to MA10; Tony Kley from BA20 to BA30; Carol Meyerson from BA10 to BA20; Wade Moravec from MA to MA10; Ashley Roemer from BA10 to BA20; Regina Sherod from BA20 to BA30, Elementary Laker News, enrollment options history, Teaching Today MN Spring 2016 volume 1, Resource Training and Solutions Summer catalog, article from Mr. Bush, and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes the Howard Lake Sportsman’s Club for donating $750 to the Clay Target program. Thank you for your donation and continued support of the school district.
The School Board recognizes Mary Robinson who recently received the Distinguished Service Award which is awarded annually to up to three individuals by the Minnesota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Honorees have made a significant and lasting contribution to the local school activities program. Mike Beck, the executive secretary of the MNIAAA presented the award to Mary. Congratulations Mary and thank you for all you have done for HLWW Schools.
The School Board recognizes Ben Anderson for being named Class AA Section 4 Coach of the Year at the Minnesota Football Coaches Association Banquet. Congratulations Ben, thank you for all you do for HLWW Football!
The School Board recognizes Harlon Adickes for donating $510 of memorial funds from Donna’s funeral to be added to the Chris Adickes Scholarship fund for HLWW Schools. Thank you for your donation
Kocher seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Heuer motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Kocher seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Heuer motioned to approve the 2016-17 annual budget; Bravinder seconded; Diers is opposed due to a CNA program already in place at Wright Tech Center. Sellner indicated we are aware of the conflict however due to scheduling conflicts students are not able to make the course at Wright Tech work for them. Sellner reported we are working with Good Samaritan in Howard Lake which is not affiliated with the Wright Tech program. Sellner also indicated we could receive funding back from Good Samaritan if students pass their test and are hired to work with them. Sellner reported this course meets a need request from students and local businesses. Motion passes by majority vote.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Heuer motioned to approve the transfer of $14,765.78 from the General Fund to the Community Education fund for unspent Collaborative funds; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Kocher motioned to increase lunch and breakfast prices by five cents; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Bravinder motioned to approve the estimates with Kemps - escalating pricing, Bimbo Bakeries (Earthgrains), Mumford Sanitation, Leisure Time and Jon’s Lawn Care; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Heuer motioned to appoint Kocher and Diers to be on the committee to hear grievances; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) Bush motioned to approve the following items for the March Work Session:
• Approve Election Results
• Department Reports
• Discuss Incentives for Senior Class Students
• Discuss Solar Project
• Information from MSBA-School Board Member Compensation
• MCA Testing-notification of ability to opt out
• Trophy Sales
• Ramp Up to Readiness Update
Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. H) The Policy Committee recommends the first reading of the following policies: 417-Chemical Use & Abuse; 418-Drug-Free Workplace/Drug-Free School; 419-Tobacco-Free Environment; 420-Students & Employees with Sexually Transmitted Infections & Diseases & Certain Other Communicable Diseases & Infectious Conditions; 530-Immunization Requirements; and 532-Use of Peace Officers & Crisis Teams to Remove Students with IEP’s from School Grounds.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Superintendent Sellner gave a report.
