BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING
Monday, July 11, 2016
HLWW HS Media Center
The July 11, 2016 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:02 p.m.. by Chairperson Wiech. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Heuer, Bush, Diers, Bravinder, Detlefsen, and Lasiuk (Kocher). Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Heuer motioned to approve the agenda; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Heuer motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the June 13, 2016 Regular Board meeting minutes, July bills, Building Project bills, the retirement of Dan Boeson, Transportation Director, effective August 31, 2016, fall coaching staff, the second reading and approval of the following policies: 501-School Weapons; 502-Search of Student Lockers/Desks/Personal Possessions/Person; 515-Protection & Privacy of Pupil Records; 516-Student Medication; 521-Student Disability Nondiscrimination; 526-Hazing Prohibition; 530-Immunization Requirements; 531-Pledge of Allegiance, and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes Lissa Gatz for donating $1,015.89 to the district Fine Arts and Sports programs. Than you Lissa for your donation and continued support of the district.
The School Board recognizes Connor Schank for his performance at the 2016 State Track Meet. He earned 2nd place in both the 800m and 1600m. In doing so, he set a school record in the 800 with a time of 1:56.17 and the 1600m with a time of 4:23.19! Way to go Connor!
Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Lasiuk reviewed the grievance proceedings to date and presented the Grievance Committee’s recommendation to deny the grievance.
Heuer motioned to accept the recommendation from the Grievance Committee to deny the level III grievance; Bravinder seconded; Wiech read the resolution; those in favor: Lasiuk, Heuer, Bravinder, Diers, Detlefsen and Wiech; opposed: Bush; passed by majority.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Diers motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Lasiuk seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Heuer motioned to approve the Health and Safety Policy 807 and the resolution approving the school districts 10 year Long Term Facilities Maintenance plan; Detlefsen seconded; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Bravinder, Bush, Heuer, Lasiuk, and Wiech; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Heuer motioned to approve the MAWSECO IT lease agreement for 2016-17 school year; Lasiuk seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Detlefsen motioned to approve Mid-County Coop’s fuel estimate for 2016-17; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Bravinder motioned to approve truth in taxation hearing date of December 12, 2016; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) Diers motioned to approve the Principal, Para, Secretary, and District Office contracts; Lasiuk seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. H) Superintendent Sellner and Donna Wilson, reviewed the transportation services proposal.
Heuer motioned to approve the resolution awarding the contract to 4.O for transportation services; Detlefsen seconded; Wiech read the resolution; those in favor: Lasiuk, Heuer, Bravinder, Diers, Detlefsen, and Wiech; opposed: Bush; passed by majority.
(Item VII, Subd. I) Diers motioned to approve the post-retirement health care savings arrangement for teachers; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. J) Diers motioned to approve the picnic shelter and cement work at the high school/middle school site; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. K) Heuer motioned to approve the new electronic sign with 19.88mm line spacing, lettering to match the building, installation, electrical, engineer drawings and permits; Lasiuk seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Superintendent Sellner gave a report.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Wiech reported the School Board Committee Reports are attached for you to review.
Diers reported Community Ed is amazing; the number of activities that are available and the usage is phenomenal.
