HLWW School District 2687 Board Minutes

The July 10, 2017 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:05 p.m.. by Chairperson Wiech. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Lasiuk, Heuer, Bush, Bravinder, Diers and Detlefsen. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Diers motioned to approve the agenda; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Heuer motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the June 12, 2017 Regular Board Meeting minutes, July bills, enrollment, the following employment recommendations: Phillip Uecker as the 7-8 Grade Social Studies teacher, replacing Travis Eldred, effective the 2017-18 school year; and Jennifer Moe as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher, this is a replacement position, at Winsted Elementary effective the 2017-18 school year, the second reading and approval of the following policies: 425-Staff Development, 504-Student Dress & Appearance, 507-Corporal Punishment, 509-Enrollment of Nonresident Students, 525- Violence Prevention, 618-Assessment of Standard Achievement, 619-Staff Development for Standards, 624-On-Line Learning Options, 709-Student Transportation Safety Policy, and 710-Extracurricular Transportation, and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes CJ Decker on being named 2017 Softball 1st team All-State catcher for class AA. Congratulations CJ and keep up the good work.
The School Board recognizes AJ Thompson for being named 2017 Softball honorable mention center fielder for class AA. Congratulations AJ and keep up the good work.
The School Board recognizes HLWW students recently crowned in local city celebrations: Miss Howard Lake Shelbi Johnson, and Natelee Gillmore as princess during Good Neighbor Days coronation. Congratulations to both of you, and good luck in the future.
Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Detlefsen motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Heuer motioned to approve the LTFM Resolution, the Health and Safety Policy 807 and the 10 year Long Term Facilities Maintenance plan; Detlefsen seconded; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Bravinder, Bush, Heuer, Lasiuk and Wiech; those opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Superintendent Sellner reviewed the information about a potential part-time posting for an Elementary Art position. Heuer said she thought it was a good idea. The consensus of the board was it is ok to post as a potential position to see if there is anyone available.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Superintendent Sellner reported because of the MOU for removing the goals in his contract, we need a new district evaluation for the Superintendent. Superintendent Sellner shared an example of what MSBA has and asked board members to discuss it with the negotiations committee. Heuer commented performance evaluations are private information.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Bravinder motioned to approve truth in taxation hearing date of December 11, 2017 at 6 p.m.; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) There were no School Board Committee Reports.
Diers indicated Wright Tech Center has started the process for hiring a director.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Superintendent gave a report.

Bush reported there was an article in the paper which the board members should read regarding a four year college degree is not always the answer.
(Item XI) Heuer motioned to close the regular meeting at 7:03 p.m.; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
Heuer motioned to open the closed meeting to discuss negotiation strategies at 7:06 p.m.; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
