BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING
Monday, February 12, 2018
HLWW HS Media Center
The February 12, 2018 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:01 pm. by Chairperson Wiech. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Lasiuk, Heuer, Bush, Bravinder, Diers and Detlefsen. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Diers motioned to approve the agenda; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Diers motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the January 8, 2018 Organizational/Regular Board Meeting, January 25, 2018 Special/Work Session Meeting Minutes, February bills, Building project/ construction bills, January Enrollment, the resignations of Leroy Bren as a custodian effective January 22, 2018; Chris Johnson as Head Girls Softball Coach effective January 22, 2018; Chad Christian as Asst. Varsity Softball Coach effective January 24, 2018; Geraldine Dressel as a high school paraprofessional effective February 1, 2018; Chris Cousin as the High School Business Teacher effective the end of the 2017-18 school year; and Kevin Lamont as a Middle/High school Ag Teacher effective the end of the 2017-18 school year, the employment of Jessica Rud as a Paraprofessional at Winsted Elementary effective February 12, 2018; Carol Meyerson as Head Softball Coach effective immediately; and Brooke Decker as Assistant Softball Coach effective immediately, School Board Committee Assignments, the second reading and approval of the following policies: 505-Distribution of Nonschool Sponsored Materials on School Premises; 602-Organization of School Calendar and School Day; 605-Alternative Programs; and 609-Religion, the following communications: Elementary Laker News, Teaching Today MN Winter 2017-18 Volume 2, Resource Training & Solutions Board of Directors Election, and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes Bob and Sandy Williams for donating $240 for Deep Portage scholarships. Thank you for your generosity and support of this program and our school district.
The School Board recognizes receiving $1,000 grant from Sand County Foundation for the pollinator and monarch grant program.
The School Board recognizes HLWW’s Triple A award winners Jenna Benson and Zachary Uter. Congratulations to both of you and best of luck in the future.
Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Ann Thomas from School Finances.Com reviewed the enrollment study.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Detlefsen motioned to approve the revised 2017-18 budget; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Diers motioned to approve the resolution for the transfer of $27,899.96 from the district’s general fund to the debt service fund for payment of the long-term facilities maintenance bond payment; Bravinder seconded; Heuer read the resolution; those in favor: Lasiuk, Heuer, Bush, Bravinder, Diers, Detlefsen and Wiech; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Bravinder motioned to approve the target budget reduction amount of $275,000 for the 2018-19 school year; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously
(Item VII, Subd. E) Heuer motioned to approve the high school gym floor refinish project with FL R Sanders for $31,274.20 including the water based option; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Diers motioned to deny the additional year leave request of Angela Pittman; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously
(Item VII, Subd. G) Diers motioned to approve the resolution for school trust lands; Bravinder seconded; Heuer read the resolution; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Bravinder, Bush, Heuer, Lasiuk and Wiech; opposed: none; passed unanimously
(Item VII, Subd. H) Heuer motioned to approve the student overnight trip to the State FFA Convention-U of MN St. Paul April 22-24, 2018; and FFA Ag in Action Trip SDSU Little I Ag Industry & Education at Denver Colorado March 23-28, 2018; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously
(Item VII, Subd. I) Wiech reported the following are agenda items for the January work session:
• Discuss Cursive Writing
• Discuss/Review Handbook Changes
• Discuss/Review Superintendent Performance
• Wright County Conference Discussion
• Review Reduction Ideas from Principals and Administration Team
Heuer motioned to approve the items for the February Work Session; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously
(Item VII, Subd. J) The Policy Committee recommends reviewing the records retention schedule, and the Leave Sharing/Donation Policy.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Superintendent gave a report.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Wiech indicated the School Board Committee reports are in your packet to review.
