The June 11, 2018 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:02 pm. by Chairperson Wiech. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Heuer, Bush, Diers and Detlefsen; absent: Lasiuk; Bravinder arrived at 6:05 p.m. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Diers motioned to approve the agenda; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Diers motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the May 14, 2018 Regular Board Meeting, May 29, 2018 Work Session Meeting, June bills, May enrollment, the childcare leave for Leisha Diers approximately November 12, 2018 thru January 16, 2019; the resignations of Laurie Nelson as a the District Office Assistant effective June 8, 2018; Michelle Sperle-Berg as a High School Science Teacher effective the end of the 2017-18 school year; Angela Pittman as an Elementary Teacher effective May 31, 2018; and Morgan Niemela as a speech coach effective immediately, employment of Nicholas Anderson as a High School Science Teacher beginning the 2018-19 school year replacing Michelle Sperle-Berg, the Communications: Winsted Veterans Memorial, Teaching Today MN-Summer 2018, the following communications:
The School Board recognizes Pat Riddell for donating a bowl with the old Howard Lake school building painted on it. Thank you Pat for sending us this donation.
The School Board recognizes those who helped with the Joe Woitalla Memorial Fishing Expo for the fourth graders of HLWW Schools. We would like to thank the following people who helped make this another huge success for us this year: the B.A.S.S. Fishing team, Cabela’s of Rogers, Graham Moving Inc., Howard Lake Lions, Howard Lake Sporstman’s Club, Jack George, Joe’s (Howard Lake), Maple Lake Lions, Mark’s Service (Waverly), Marysville Township, Rasset Outdoor Group, Streiff’s Sporting Goods (Warroad), Waverly Legion Auxiliary, Waverly Lions, and anyone else we may have missed. We had great volunteers that continue to make our event successful. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped give us the ability to continue to bring this outdoor opportunity to the students of HLWW!
The School Board recognizes Humphrey Elementary Kindergarten Teacher Mr. Boger, who was named Fox 9 Top Teacher! We are very proud of Mr. Boger and all he does for his students and our school district! Thank you Mr. Boger!
Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Kelli Westling gave a presentation on our Q Comp Plan.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Diers motioned to approve RAM as our workers compensation carrier; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Heuer motioned to approve the treasurer report; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Diers motioned to approve the 2018-19 Preliminary Budget; Detlefsen seconded; Sellner reported the enrollment study projections were at 1243; we are going more conservative; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Diers motioned to approve the Lead in Drinking Water Testing and Remediation Policy; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Diers motioned to approve the resolution relating to updating school district population; Bravinder seconded; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Bravinder, Bush, Heuer and Wiech; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) Detlefsen motioned to approve the resolution authorizing the Superintendent to sign legal documents closing/dissolution for TIES; Diers seconded; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Bravinder, Bush, Heuer and Wiech; opposed; none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. H) Diers motioned to approve the resolution for the sale of property; Bravinder seconded; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Bravinder, Bush, Heuer and Wiech; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. I) Diers motioned to approve the resolution establishing dates for filing affidavits of candidacy; Bravinder seconded; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Bravinder, Bush, Heuer and Wiech; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. J) Wiech reported the following are agenda items for the June work session:
• Discuss Guardian Angel Fund
• Discuss Information on Teacher Provided Supply Costs
• Discuss Final Year End Report-Update on Backpack Food Program
• Negotiations Update
• Principal Reports
Superintendent Sellner indicated he will not be able to attend the June work session.
Bravinder motioned to approve the items as indicated for the June Work Session; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Superintendent Sellner gave a report.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Wiech reported the School Board Committee reports are attached to review.
