HLWW School District 2687 Board Minutes

The July 9, 2018 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:00 pm. by Chairperson Wiech. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Lasiuk, Heuer, Bravinder, Diers and Detlefsen; absent: Bush; Lasiuk arrived at 6:04 pm. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Heuer motioned to approve the agenda; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item IV) Diers motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the June 11, 2018 Regular Board minutes, June 25, 2018 Work Session minutes, July bills, June enrollment, the employment of Annette Hystad as a Speech Coach beginning the fall of 2018 replacing Morgan Niemela; and Megan Tormanen as the District Office Assistant effective July 16, 2018 replacing Laurie Nelson, the fall coaching staff, and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes Lissa Gatz for her donation of $978.52 to the sports and fine arts programs of the district. Thank you Lissa for your donation and support of the district.
The School Board recognizes the Howard Lake Legion for donating $600 to the Clay Target team. Thank you for your donation and continued support of the school district.
The School Board recognizes HLWW students recently crowned in local city celebrations: Miss Howard Lake Lanney Loebertmann, and Ari Higgins as princess during Good Neighbor Days coronation. Congratulations to both of you and good luck in the future.
Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Charlie Kyte discussed solar gardens and our involvement as a way to save money. Superintendent Sellner reported he has asked other superintendents about solar gardens, and they said why wouldn’t you do it. Bravinder requested the district pursue the opportunity. The consensus of the board was to move forward with this opportunity.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Heuer motioned to approve the activity handbook with the addition of prerequisite skills for all activities and the change from NHS to MHS; Lasiuk seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Diers motioned to approve the treasurer report; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Wiech reported the MAWSECO 2018-19 lease agreements are attached for review and we will bring them to the August meeting for approval.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Diers motioned to approve the LTFM Resolution, the Health and Safety Policy 807 and the 10 year Long Term Facilities Maintenance plan; Heuer seconded; those in favor: Lasiuk, Heuer, Bravinder, Diers, Detlefsen and Wiech; those opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Diers motioned to approve truth in taxation hearing date of December 10, 2018; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) Heuer gave an update from the Negotiations Committee.
(Item VII, Subd. H) Detlefsen motioned to approve policy 440-Support of Breastfeeding Employees; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. I) Wiech indicated the Policy Committee recommends the first reading of the following policies: 410-Family & Medical Leave; 413-Harassment & Violence; 414-Mandated Reporting of Child Neglect or Physical or Sexual Abuse; 415-Mandated Reporting of Maltreatment of Vulnerable Adults; 506-Student Discipline; 514-Bullying Prohibition; 522-Student Sex Nondiscrimination; 524-Internet Acceptable Use & Safety; and 616-School District System Accountability.
(Item VII, Subd. J) Wiech reported there are no work session topics at this time.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Superintendent Sellner gave a report.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Wiech indicated the committee reports are attached to review.
