The October 8, 2018 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:00 pm. by Chairperson Wiech. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Wiech, Lasiuk, Heuer, Bush, Bravinder, Diers and Detlefsen. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Wiech reported we will remove Item A-Property and Casualty Insurance approval to the October Work Session.
Detlefsen motioned to approve the agenda; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Diers motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the September 10, 2018 Regular Board Meeting minutes, September 24, 2018 Work Session Meeting minutes, October bills, September enrollment, the family leave request from Hannah Vreeland approximately April 8, 2019 thru June 6, 2019; and the retirement of Rod Bell as a custodian at Humphrey Elementary effective January 31, 2019, the following lane changes: Stephanie Dailey from MA to MA10; Rachel Erger from BA to BA20; Jeff Goudy from MA10 to MA20; Angela Granrud MA to MA10; Jeff Granrud from MA to MA10; Andy Hertwig from BA to BA20; Josh Klenken from MA to MA10; Tony Kley from MA to MA10; Emily Konerza from BA30 to MA; Christin Lamott from MA to MA10; Carol Meyerson from MA to MA10; Joe Puncochar from BA to BA20; Andrea Travis from MA to MA10; Sara Varner from MA to MA10; Josh Westling from MA to MA10; Kelli Westling from MA30 to MA40, Winter Coaching Staff, communications: Teaching Today-Back to School 2018, Elementary Laker Newsletter, and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes the volunteers assisting with the vision and hearing screening. Thank you for your continued volunteer support of the school district.
The School Board recognizes the following teachers who will be honored at the 27th annual Leadership in Educational Excellence (LEEA) banquet on October 24, 2018: Zan Thrasher, Leann Gallagher, and Rachel Erger.. This annual event sponsored by Resource Training and Solutions, honors educators for their dedication to teaching and inspiring students. We congratulate you on this accomplishment, and thank you for your commitment to students of this district.
The School Board recognizes Zitzloff Snow Plowing, Gagnon and Big Lake Ameriprise Financial, K-Way Express, Waverly Lions and an anonymous donor all of whom donated funds to the Backpack Food Program sponsored by the Wright County Community Action (WCCA). The program provides food over the weekend to students in need, from preschool through sixth grade at all of our communities’ schools. Thank you for your donation.
The School Board recognizes the following students who were crowned the 2018-19 homecoming royalty. Prince: Nicholas McAlpine, Princess: Isabelle Roufs, King: Brock Bangasser, and Queen: Elise Luchsinger. Congratulations to everyone.
Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Item moved to the October 22nd work session.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Diers motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Diers motioned to approve the 2019-2020 school calendar; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Diers motioned to approve the student overnight trip to Deep Portage January 15-17, 2019; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Diers motioned to adopt the resolution for the districts application to the MN State High School League Foundation; Bravinder seconded; Heuer read the resolution; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Bravinder, Bush, Heuer, Lasiuk and Wiech; those opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Diers motioned to approve the MAWSECO Joint Powers resolution; Bravinder seconded; those in favor: Lasiuk, Heuer, Bush, Bravinder, Diers, Detlefsen and Wiech; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) Bravinder motioned to approve the annual Assurance of Compliance report; Diers seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. H) Wiech indicated the teacher seniority list is under review and will be brought to the November meeting for approval. Superintendent Sellner reviewed the process for staff regarding the teacher seniority list.
(Item VII, Subd. I) The Policy Committee recommends the first reading of the following policies: 510-School Activities, 513-Student Promotion, Retention and program design, 517-Student Recruiting, 603-Curriculum Development, 604-Instructional Curriculum, 608-Instructional Services
(Item VII, Subd. J) Wiech asked if there are any items other than what is indicated for the work session.

Bush asked if Mr. Berning would be at the work session to discuss early morning practices. Superintendent Sellner reported he is gathering information on early morning practices.
Heuer motioned to approve the items for the October Work Session; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.

Bravinder asked if we can reopen the agenda, we would like to have a closed meeting. Superintendent Sellner and Wiech both responded, no because we would need to give notice of a closed meeting ahead of time.
Detlefsen motioned to adjourn at 6:27 p.m.; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
