BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETINGMonday, July 8, 2019HLWW HS Media Center
The July 8, 2019 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:00 p.m. . by Chairperson Heuer. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Heuer, Koch, Bravinder, Peterson, Scheuch, Diers and Detlefsen. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, Principal Jason Mix and SMS Financial Consultant Donna Wilson.
(Item IV) Diers motioned to approve the agenda; Scheuch seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Heuer indicated there is an additional new hire of a Chemistry Teacher to the consent Agenda. Diers motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the June 10, 2019 Regular Board meeting minutes, June 24, 2019 Work Session meeting minutes, July bills, June enrollment the resignation of Nick Anderson, Chemistry Teacher at HLWW high school effective immediately, the employment of Jason Ash as a high school/middle school evening custodian effective immediately, replacing Carl Nelson, the employment of Kevin Weems as the Chemistry teacher at HLWW high school, effective for 2019-20, replacing Nick Anderson, the approval of the fall coaching staff, the second reading and approval of the following policies: 201-Legal Status of the School Board, 202-School Board Officers, 203-Operation of the School Board-Governing Rules, 203.1-School Board Procedures; Rules of Order, 203.2-Order of the Regular School Board Meeting, 203.5-School Board Meeting Agenda, 203.6-Consent Agendas and 516-Student Medication, an election timeline, and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes the following staff who were recognized at the second annual staff recognition award ceremony on Jun 6, 2019: Joann Bundrock, and Emma Arvidson received a Support Staff Award and will be attending our Support Staff Award Ceremony at Resource Training and Solutions in the fall; Katie Koch received the Friend of Education Award; Sue Newmann and Ashley Roemer received the Teacher of the Year Awards; and Rod Bell, Duane Lichy and Sue Neumann on their retirement. Congratulations to everyone on a successful school year and a special congratulation to those who were award recipients.
The School Board recognizes HLWW students recently crowned in local city celebrations: Miss Howard Lake Kalyn Hatcher, and Kiera Jarman and Ellie Deiter as princesses during Good Neighbor Days coronation. Congratulations to all of you and good luck in the future.
Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Peterson motioned to keep graduation day on a Sunday; Diers seconded; Scheuch opposed all others in favor; passed by majority.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Detlefsen motioned to approve the treasurer report; Koch seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Diers motioned to approve the LTFM Resolution and the 10 year Long Term Facilities Maintenance plan; Scheuch seconded; those in favor: Scheuch, Diers, Detlefsen, Koch, Bravinder, Peterson, and Heuer; those opposed: none, passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Diers motioned to approve truth in taxation hearing date of December 9, 2019; Detlefsen seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Koch motioned to approve the resolution regarding board control of extra-curricular activities; Detlefsen seconded; those in favor: Peterson, Koch, Detlefsen, Scheuch, Heuer; opposed: Bravinder, Diers; passed by majority.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Bravinder motioned to approve the resolution accepting donations; Diers seconded; those in favor: Detlefsen, Diers, Scheuch, Peterson, Bravinder, Koch and Heuer; those opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) The board reviewed and discussed the 2020-21 school calendar.
(Item VII, Subd. H) The Policy Committee recommends the first reading of the following policy: 204-School Board Meeting Minutes, 205-Open meetings & Closed Meetings, 206-Public Participation in School Board Meetings/Complaints about Persons at School Board Meetings and Data Privacy Considerations, 209-Code of Ethics, 210-Conflict of Interest-School Board Members, 213-School Board Committees, 301-School District Administration, 302-Superintendent.
