The October 14, 2019 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:02 pm. by Chairperson Heuer. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Heuer, Koch, Bravinder, Peterson, Scheuch, and Diers; Detlefsen arrived at 6:05 pm. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, Principals Jason Mix, Jim Schimelpfenig, and Jennifer Olson, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Scheuch motioned to approve the agenda; Peterson seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Koch motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the September 9, 2019 Regular Board Meeting minutes, September 23, 2019 Work Session Meeting minutes, October bills, September enrollment, the FMLA leave request for Rachel Erger effective approximately January 31, 2020 and returning March 31, 2020; and the resignation of Amanda Kuhl as a SAC para effective immediately, September 12, 2019, the employment of Tyler Maher as Head Baseball Coach starting immediately; and Michelle Schmieg as SAC PM Para effective October 2, 2019; and the following lane changes: Laura Bishop from BA to BA15; Stephanie Dailey from MA20 to MA40; Rachel Erger from BA20 to MA; Jeff Goudy from MA30 to MA40; Angela Granrud MA20 to MA30; Jeff Granrud from MA20 to MA30; Brittany Graves from BA20 to BA30; Andy Hertwig from BA20 to MA; Heather Johnson from BA to BA15; Emily Konerza from MA10 to MA20; Christin Lamott from MA20 to MA30; Carol Meyerson from MA10 to MA20; Ryan Petersen from BA to BA20; Joe Puncochar from BA20 to MA; Gary Schmidt from BA to BA20; Sara Varner from MA10 to MA20, the Winter coaching staff, the second reading and approval of the following policies: 303-Superintendent Selection, 304-Superintendent Contract, Duties, and Evaluation, 601-School District Curriculum and Instruction Goals, 611-Home Schooling, 722-Public Data Requests, Communications-Teaching Today MN Back to School 2019 and the Elementary Laker News; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
Detlefsen arrived at 6:05pm.
(Item VII, Subd. A) Bill Drummer, Asst. Manager; Joe Tulkki, Transportation Supervisor and Bob Becker from 4.O School Services, gave a presentation about cul-de-sacs.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Scott Berning, Activities Director, reviewed the new Inside Out Initiative program for coaches and players that we are using.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Diers motioned to adopt the resolution for the districts’ application to the MN State High School League Foundation; Detlefsen seconded; those in favor Scheuch, Diers, Detlefsen, Koch, Bravinder, Peterson and Heuer; those opposed none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Diers motioned to approve the treasurer’s report; Bravinder seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Principal Schimelpfenig reviewed the request for additional middle school office staff.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Diers motioned to approve the additional paraprofessional at Winsted Elementary; Koch seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) Diers motioned to approve the 2019-21 Teacher Contract; Detlefsen seconded; motion carried
(Item VII, Subd. H) The teacher seniority list is under review and will be brought to the November meeting for approval.
(Item VII, Subd. I) Bravinder motioned to approve the annual Assurance of Compliance report; Peterson seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. J) Detlefsen motioned to approve the resolution accepting donations; Scheuch seconded; those in favor: Peterson, Bravinder, Koch, Detlefsen, Diers, Scheuch and Heuer; those opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. K) Diers motioned to approve the overnight student trip October 28-November 2, 2019 for the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis IN; and the December 26-29 2019 wrestling trip to Fargo, ND grades 7-12; Peterson seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. L) The Policy Committee recommends the first reading of the following policies: 325-Voluntary Employment Policy; 405-Veteran’s Preference; 408-Subpoena of School Dist. Employee; 409-Employee Publications, Instructional Materials, Inventions, & Creations; 412-Expense Reimbursement; 416-Drug & Alcohol Testing; 508-Extended School Year for Student with IEP.
(Item VII, Subd. M) Heuer asked if there were any items for the October work session, hearing none, we will cancel this meeting unless otherwise required.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Superintendent Sellner gave a report.
