The Regular Meeting and a Closed Session Meeting of the Board of Education of District 424, Lester Prairie, McLeod County, Minnesota were held on Monday, December 14, 2009, in the school Media Center.
Roll call was taken and the following board members were present: Fred Blaser, Karla Heigl, Chester Hoernemann, Joe Miller, and Rawelin Radtke. Jim Jorgenson was absent. Administration present included Mike McNulty. There were approximately two guests present, as well as Ivan Raconteur from the Herald-Journal newspaper.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chester Hoernemann.
Chester Hoernemann made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda for this meeting as modified; to approve the minutes of the Regular Board meeting of November 16, 2009, and to pay bills in the amount of $140,505.50 and Student Activity for $3,472.28. Karla Heigl seconded the motion. The motion passed with a 5-0 vote.
Discussed Tax Levy information. One member of the public did inquire about their property valuation. He will direct his questions to the County Auditor.
Joe Miller made a motion to approve Tax Levy in the amount of $862,552.21. Fred Blaser seconded the motion. The motion passed with a 5-0 vote.
Mediation session did take place on December 8, 2009. No settlement has been reached.
Mr. McNulty gave the administrative reports. Five new students in elementary. Thank you to all who supported the Christmas Store. Approximately $320 was raised. The Elementary Concert had a full house. Thank you to Mr. Rue for all his hard work. Spelling Bee rescheduled to December 16 at 4:00 in the library. Community Education Bulletin is out and was distributed to Board Members. Next Community Education Advisory Board meeting is at 6:30 on January 4th in the Media Center. Community Wellness Equipment has been delivered to Room 144. Students of the Month featured in the newspaper were Zach Fasching and Courtney Scoblic. Also, thank you to Mr. McNulty for the Prairie Educator Article posted in newspaper. Fred Blaser, Julie Olson and Mr. McNulty to attend Race to the Top Meeting in Hutchinson on December 15th. Upcoming Dates: Late Start 12/15 – topic RtI; High School Concert 12/17; Early Dismissal 12/23 at 11:30; Geography Bee 1/13; Science Fair 3/19; Grandparents Day 5/7.
Mr. Miller announced that the Lester Prairie Lions Club approved funding of a program to supply all 3rd Grade students with dictionaries. 50 dictionaries will be distributed to 3rd and 4th graders this year.
Joe Miller made a motion to approve the contracts for Betty Williams (Kitchen) and Joey Bayerl (Fall Play). Chester Hoernemann seconded the motion. The motion passed with a 5-0 vote.
Mr. McNulty distributed a proposal from TSP Architects for future facilities improvements.
The Technology Committee will meet December 21, 2009 at 3:15 p.m.
Mr. McNulty reviewed MacNeil Environmental report from December 7 review. Discussed replacement of fire extinguishers; fire exits in Science Room.
MSBA Annual Leadership Conference is January 14-15, 2010. Joe Miller, Fred Blaser, Chester Hoernemann and Mike McNulty to attend.
Reviewed process for Superintendent Evaluation. Mr. McNulty will distribute Evaluation Form to be used by all Board Members. Board Members to have their evaluations turned in to Chester Hoernemann prior to the January Board Meeting.
Joe Miller made a motion to have the meeting to reorganize the Board on January 11, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. with the Regular Board Meeting to follow. Fred Blaser seconded the motion. The motion passed with a 5-0 vote.
The regular meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
During the Closed Session Meeting, which directly followed the Regular Meeting, the Board discussed the mediation session held with the teachers representatives on December 8, 2009, and discussed future teacher negotiations.
The closed session meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
