REGULAR MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION
Lester Prairie Public Schools
Monday, July 21st, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.
Lester Prairie School Media Center
Roll call was taken and the following board members were present: MerriLea Kyllo, Bob Carlson, Rollie Radtke, Greg Machemehl, Karla Heigl & Matthew Klitzke). Administration present: Mike McNulty and Jeremy Schmidt. Guests: Activities Director Blaine Walstrom, Helen Lester Family and Ivan Raconteur of the Herald Journal.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Matt Klitzke.
Motion by Klitzke, seconded by Machemehl to approve minutes of the Regular Board meeting on 6/17/2014. In the same motion, approval to pay bills in the amount of $514,960.39 & student activity fees of $316.95 were also included. Voting was 6 for, 0 against.
Recognition of Communications since Last Meeting:
• None at this time.
Administrative Reports:
Mr. Schmidt’s K-12 report: Discussed handout as presented.
Activities Director Walstrom: discussed football district. AD Walstrom also sought recommendations from board regarding gym floor refinishing colors.
Facilities Report: None at this time.
Mr. McNulty’s report: MSBA/MASA/MDE conference. Also discussed building work update.
Policy Administration:
Student count as of 7/11/14 for K-12 is 414.
Personnel Issues
Motion by Klitzke, seconded by Kyllo to approve the following contracts:

Voting was 5 for, 0 against with G. Machemehl abstaining.
Motion by Radtke, seconded by Machemehl to approve the following contracts:

Voting was 6 for, 0 against.
School Finances
Bids for milk, bread & garbage are still at large. Tabled until August meeting.
Motion by Carlson, seconded by Machemehl to approve the Health & Safety Budget and Policy #807. Voting was 6 for, 0 against.
Discussion about future office asbestos removal in summer of 2016. No action taken.
New Business:
Heard presentation from Helen Lester regarding BeyondTheYellowRibbon.org. Motion by Carlson, seconded by Kyllo for Lester Prairie Schools to become stakeholder in McLeod County. Voting was 6 for, 0 against.
House “For Sale” discussion. Property is currently “connected” to school parking lot. Board consensus is that we continue to look into the matter, but no action taken at this time.
Motion by Carlson, seconded by Kyllo to support resolution that would move LP Football into District Midstate and/or Mid- Southeast and/or Southwest and the denial of the MSHSL putting LP Football into District South-Central. Voting was 6 for, 0 against.
Handicap parking discussion. Board recommendation is to add additional handicap parking spots on east side of school. Superintendent McNulty will appear at next Lester Prairie City Council Meeting and seek permission.
Board agreed to move regular August meeting on 8/11/2014 to 8/13/2014.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:37 p.m.

Board Members present: Gregg Machemehl, Karla Heigl, MerriLea Kyllo, Bob Carlson, Rawelin Radtke, and Matthew Klitzke. Mike McNulty & Jeremy Schmidt were present for the Administration.
Discussion to set District Strategies and Goals in the following areas:
• Facilities – long range plan
• Communication – online, internal, school/community
• Instruction – academic social wellness
• Technology – 21st Century Learning, increase student engagement
• Professional Development – WBWF, Teacher Eval, Committee plan
• Principal Evaluation (administration)
