Work Session of the
SCHOOL BOARD of EDUCATION
Lester Prairie Public Schools
Monday, February 18th, 2015 7 a.m.
Lester Prairie School Media Center
Roll call was taken and the following board members were present: MerriLea Kyllo, Karla Heigl, Mary Otto, Corbey Hentges, Steve Ziermann and Rawelin Radtke. Administration present: Mike McNulty and Jeremy Schmidt.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve Ziermann.
Motion by Hentges, seconded by Otto to approve the Consent Agenda as presented or modified
1. The Board was advised that Mr. McNulty has accepted a new position at a Charter School.
a. Heigl contacted the MSBA for advisement on posting the position.
i. The position would be posted for 2 weeks
ii. Mr. Schmidt interested and submitted letter
iii. Tomorrow McNulty to inform the staff in the afternoon
b. This will be held to a Board discussion for new hire
A presentation was made to the board by McNulty and Schmidt addressing needs of the District.
1. Special Education needs
a. Currently 35 Spec. Ed students
b. Need for Autism licensed/trained Spec. Ed. Teacher
i. Current 7 Autistic students
c. Currently Jocelyn Buckentin is used 1 hr a day for technology
i. Currently teaches Social studies and has Master Degree
ii. If moved to time Tech integration will need to fill Social Studies position
iii. Mary O. asked if there was space for new teacher
iv. Administration afraid she will move on if changes are not made.
2. District Goals
a. Board needs to set goals
b. Training for Board members Phase III coming up
3. Academics
a. Discussion on having a College Class in every core class
i. Social Studies AP class
ii. Career Development Class
4. Facility Planning
a. Special ED/Phy Ed space needs
b. Classroom space

• Motion made to move forward Grant for Solar Panel by Otto, 2nd by Radtke Vote: 6 for, 0 against
Personnel Issues
• Motion made Kyllo and 2nd Hentges to approve the contract for Genevieive Jeurissen for Kids Depot worker, and in the same motion approve the contracts for Ben Machemel JV Baseball coach and Michael Bjork as asst. track coach. Vote: 6 for, 0 against
