Monday, August 20th, 2018 5:45 p.m.
Lester Prairie School Media Center
Roll call was taken and the following board members were present: Corbey Hentges, Mark Sebora, Steve Ziermann, Meganne Stifter-Knoll, Mary Otto and Rebecca Heimerl. Administration present: Mike Lee and Jeremy Schmidt. Staff present: Kim DeBruyckere. Guests: Kurt Rosenau, Jen Burfeind, Matt Schmidt, Sara Gonzalez, and Ivan Raconteur for the Herald Journal.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve Ziermann.
Motion by Heimerl seconded by Otto to approve the Consent Agenda as modified & to approve the minutes of the Regular Board meeting of 07/16/18, and the approval to pay bills in the amount of $167,627.46 & student activity fees of $973.41 were also included.

Recognition of Communications since Last Meeting:
• Communication – Report -
1. New Principal hired
2. Good Attendance for Golf Tourney – more than last year.
• Open dialogue –
• Kurt Rosenau spoke about receiving a letter from local police Dept. regarding a sex offender moving in to their neighborhood in town.
• He has concerns with his daughter having to walk directly passed the offenders residence on her way to school and would like to have his daughter, who is in 5th grade, picked up at their home.
• Jen Burfeind said they spoke with Officer Thiry and he indicated the offender’s incident was a long time ago.
• Discussion took place with Board members.
• The district does not pick up 5th grade students in town.
• If allowed, the parents did agree to pay for the added stop.
• Board discussed their options and the concerns for the safety of the student.
• Mr. Schmidt indicated the bus stops just north of their home.
• Board agreed they will need to gather more information from the bus company and the local police dept.
Administrative Reports
Mr. Lee K-12 Report: - highlights
• We would like to invite the LP School Board to Longhorn’s Burger Bar on Monday August 27th @ 5:00 for a new staff social.
• Teachers will officially report on August 28, 2018. We would like to invite board members to this day or the next day to share their thoughts on the upcoming school year.
• Open House will be on August 29, 2018 from 4:00-7:00
• Created some intervention/enrichment time for 1st-5th grade teachers with a different way of delivery art.
Mr. Schmidt Superintendent Report: - highlights
• Auditors came in early August
• Increase in student count
• Safety Grant is due on August 29th
o For safety devices
o 12.5 million allocated for outstate schools
• Back to School Events on 8/27 and 8/28
o Cub scouts/ Girl Scouts to participate

D. Facilities/Maint. – to meet with board after meeting
a. Hired new full time staff member
b. Moved pre-school to church
c. Staff member Jim to clean at church

e. Moved 17 classrooms
f. New partitions installed in bathrooms

F. Activities Committee – Fall practices have started

Personnel Issues
• Motion made by Heimerl and 2nd by Stifter-Knoll to approve Linda Detlefson as Cook’s helper with assigned duties.
Vote: 6 for, 0 against
• Motion by Ziermann and 2nd by Otto to approve Jeremiah Kramer as the AD/DoS for the 2018-2019 School Year based on a pro-rated 219 day contract.
• Discussion: Mr. Lee commented:
• Interviewed 3 candidates
• Jeremiah was strong in both AD and Dean of Students.
• AD in Walker and Lyle
• Wants to be part of the community
• Great reference from MSHL director of AD’s

School Finances
New Business
• Truth and Taxation Meeting date set for December 17th after 6 p.m.
• Next Regular board meeting Monday September 17th @ 5:45 p.m.
