In partnership with our communities, Dassel-Cokato Public Schools will provide all learners opportunities designed to maximize their potential and promote lifelong learning.
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 466 (Dassel-Cokato, Minnesota) was duly held in the Dassel-Cokato Board Room of the Dassel-Cokato Schools, Cokato, Minnesota, on Thursday, November 12, 2009.
Chairman Kevin Dahlman called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
The following members were present: Bjork, Bender, McConkey, Linder, Dahlman and Tormanen. The following were absent: none. Members of the community and administration were also present.
The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance.
Motion by Tormanen, seconded by Bender, accepting the agenda as printed. Motion carried unanimously.
Chairman Dahlman moved the Request for Approval of an Out of State Trip for the Speech team up in the agenda.
Motion by Linder, seconded by Bjork approving an out of state trip for the speech team to Harvard over President’s Day weekend 2010. Speech Coach Marco and one of her captains presented the trip information. The trip met all of the requirements set forth by district policy. Motion carried unanimously.
Sue Sparboe and Jacob Stang presented H2O for Life, a program they are engaging in at the middle school that involves partnering with a school in Africa that needs fresh water and better bathroom facilities. The program involves some fundraising that will be run in accordance with our fundraising policy. This was an informational item.
Motion by Bjork, seconded by Tormanen approving Jeff Powers as LEA for the District AYP Plan. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Bender, seconded by Tormanen approving a High School Remedial Reading Course. Curriculum Director. Force and High School Principal Jennissen presented information on the course which is designed to support the needs of students who have not passed the high school reading test that is required for graduation. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Bjork, seconded by Tormanen approving a High School Digital Electronics Course. High School Principal Jennissen presented information on the course which is a requirement of the Project Lead the Way curriculum and will be added for the 2010-11 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Linder, seconded by Bender approving a High School Digital Photography Course. Curriculum Director Force and Art Teacher Geoff Welles presented information on the course which will be added for the 2010-11 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Resolution in Support of the Regional Park and Trail Legacy Grant
WHEREAS, Independent School District #466, Dassel-Cokato Public Schools, supports the grant application made to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for the Regional Parks and Trails Legacy Grant Program. The application is to repair and overlay 4.88 miles of paved trail that makes up the Dassel to Cokato Bike / Pedestrian Path. The trail is located within the Dassel-Cokato Public School district, and
WHEREAS, Independent School District recognizes the match requirement for the Regional Parks and Trails Legacy Grant Program, and has secured the funds
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, if Independent School District #466 is awarded a grant by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Independent School District #466 agrees to accept the grant award, and may enter into an agreement with the State of Minnesota for the above referenced project. Independent School District #466 will comply with all applicable laws, environmental requirements and regulations as stated in the grant agreement, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the School Board of Independent School District #466 names the fiscal agent for this project as

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, Independent School District #466 hereby assures the Dassel to Cokato Bike / Pedestrian Path will be maintained for a period of no less than 20 years in cooperation with City of Cokato, City of Dassel, Cokato Township, and Dassel Township.
Motion by McConkey, Seconded by Bender. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion carried unanimously.
Report on Contract Settlements Chairman Dahlman reported that the Certified Board Negotiation Committee had reached an agreement with the Dassel-Cokato Education Association.
Motion by Dahlman, seconded by Linder Ratifying the 2009-2011 Teacher Master Agreement. Chairman Dahlman reported the following contract highlights: 1.23% increase in salary for year one, no increase for year two, simplification of the sick leave language, and no change to health insurance. Motion carried unanimously.
