Regular Meeting of the Board of Education
Independent School District 879, Delano Public Schools
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 879, Delano, Minnesota, was held on Monday, January 28, 2013, at Delano City Hall. The meeting was called to order by the chair at 7:00 PM with the following members in attendance: Johnson, Baker, Milano, Seguin, Durick, Black, and Larson. Absent: None.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA (approved unanimously): additional agenda item F was added under New Business – approve new telephone system.
PROGRAM REVIEW – Traci Lawman, Communications Coordinator
Traci Lawman presented information on how Delano Public Schools is currently communicating with students, parents and the community, along with future plans and goals to further expand district communications.
CONSENT AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board approved the organizational meeting minutes of 1-7-13, the current budget status with year to date adjustments, investment transactions, wire transfers, Minnesota Liquid Assets fund, cash report, revenue and expense fund totals, expense reports and disbursements and donations.PERSONNEL (approved unanimously)
Board approved recommendations of employment DHS Boys Soccer Head Coach, DMS Track & Field Coach, DHS JV Softball Coach, DES Long-term Substitute Teacher and TAC Aquatics; Contract changes and approvals for 2012-2014 Paraprofessional Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Bob Gielau inquired of the Board how coaches are hired for the district, if there is a specific written policy, and what the district’s goal is when hiring coaches or staff. The Board Chair stated that those questions deal with day-to-day operations of the district, which fall under the auspices of Superintendent Schoen’s position. Superintendent Schoen offered to have a separate conversation with Mr. Gielau regarding the hiring practices of the district.
Board heard the following administrative reports: Supt. Schoen reported on the Affordable Care Act and Governor Dayton’s budget proposal; MS Principal reported on School Improvement Plan and Gateway to Technology Program national accreditation; HS Principal reported on registration, staff development day and meeting with Delano Economic Development Council; ES Principal reported on staff development day activities, school safety, Healthy Delano event and Pennies for Patients fundraiser; Bus Mgr reported on revised FY13 budget and that the five-year financial projection plan should be complete in a couple of weeks; and CE Director presented on past and upcoming events in the Community Ed Department.
Board heard reports from board members regarding MAWSECO, Wright Technical Ctr, Schools for Equity in Education (SEE), Delano Area Sports Arena (DASA), Safe Schools and Staff Development.
A. Approve equipment be deemed surplus (approved unanimously)
B. Approve resolution limiting open enrollment and adopting standards for accepting and rejecting open enrollment applications (approved unanimously)
C. Approve 2013-2014 school calendar (approved unanimously)
D. Approve Safe Routes to Schools resolution (approved unanimously)
E. Approve 2013 Pay Equity Report (approved unanimously)
F. Approve new telephone system (approved unanimously)
The meeting adjourned at 8:39 PM. The preceding is a summary of the unofficial minutes. Used Road Grader
Notice is hereby given that sealed bids will be received by Franklin Township Clerk/Treasurer until 5:00 p.m. (CST), Friday, February 15, 2013 for a used road grader. Specifications to include: 2008 or newer, 1500 or lower hours, front wheel assist, 12 foot or larger snow wing, front mounted 29 inch husting hitch, warranty in effect or available. Grader must be available for inspection by Town Board. For additional specifications contact the township clerk treasurer at 763-972-3741.
Bids shall be directed to the Township Clerk/Treasurer, 545 Elm Avenue E, Delano, MN 55328 securely sealed, and endorsed upon the outside wrapper “BID FOR USED GRADER.” Clerk must be in receipt of bid on or before the due date & time set forth in this notice. All bids will be publicly opened and read aloud on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. (CST) at the Township Hall, 8735 Wright County Road 16, Delano, Minnesota 55328.
The Township reserves the right to reject any and all bids, to waive irregularities and informalities therein and to award the contract in the best interest of the Township.
