Regular Meeting of the Board of Education
Independent School District 879, Delano Public Schools
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 879, Delano, Minnesota, was held on Monday, August 26, 2013, at Delano City Hall. The meeting was called to order by the chair at 7:02 p.m. with the following members in attendance: Johnson, Milano, Durick, Black, Larson, Seguin.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA (approved unanimously)
CONSENT AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board approved the regular meeting minutes of 7-22-13. The current budget status with year-to-date adjustments, investment transactions, wire transfers, Minnesota Liquid Assets fund, cash report, revenue and expense fund totals, expense reports and disbursements.PERSONNEL (approved unanimously):
Board approved retirements/resignations/terminations, recommendations of employment which include; DES 1ST Grade Teacher, DES Interventionalist, DMS 8th Grade Football Coach, DES Long-term Substitute Teacher, DHS Junior Varsity Girls Tennis Coach, (2) DMS Special Education Paraprofessionals, DES Special Education Paraprofessional, DHS/DMS Special Education Paraprofessionals, CE Long-term Substitute Pre-School Teacher, (6) CE Summer Camp Instructors, Tiger Kids Club Substitute Teacher, (8) Tiger Kids Club Aides, (7) Tiger Activity Center Monitors and a 2-year Leave of Absence for DES Title I/Basic Skills Teacher.
Board heard the following administrative reports: Student Board Representatives Abbey Hutchins and Alex Grant introduced themselves to the board and community; Superintendent Schoen reported on the New Teacher Workshop and August 28 All-Employee Meeting; Mr. Haas, DMS Assistant Principal reported on DMS enrollment, additional special education staffing needs, middle school teacher workshop days, WEB Student Orientation Program; Dr. Heil reported on Student Leadership Team, high school enrollment, compliance to MSHSL heat guidelines for activities, DHS Open House, Link Crew Student Orientation program; Mr. Schuler reported on gymnasium floor resurfacing, Kindergarten Open House, Reading Interventionalist position, DES enrollment, 2014-15 All Day Kindergarten; M. Reeder reported on upcoming audit and preliminary levy to be presented to board in September; D. Johnson reported on fall Community Education Brochure, 4H Club partnership, Minnesota Reading Corps Pre-K program, Tiger Kids Club and Early Childhood Family Education enrollment, DMS fall play, and Vision Quest triathalon.
Board heard reports from board members regarding MAWSECO, Wright Technical Center, Delano Area Sports Arena, Staff Development.
OLD BUSINESS (approved unanimously)
Second reading of policy 902 - Use of School Facilities and Equipment, second reading of Policy 527 - Student Use and Parking of Motor Vehicles; Patrols, Inspections and Searches, and 2013-2014 District Calendar.
NEW BUSINESS (approved unanimously)
Boys Tennis Agreement, Memorandum of Agreement for Additional Duty Day for Staff Development, Delano Facilities Use Procedures Manual, Facility Maintenance and Scheduling Agreement – City of Delano and Independent School District #879, Tiger Activity Center Fees, First and only reading of policies due to non-substantive and/or legal reference changes: Policy 203.5 - School Board Meeting Agenda, Policy 205 – Open Meetings and Closed Meetings, Policy 405 – Veteran’s Preference; Hiring, Policy 414 – Mandated Reporting of Child Neglect or Physical or Sexual Abuse, Policy 418 – Drug-Free Workplace/Drug-Free School, Policy 419 – Tobacco-Free Environment, Policy 422 – Policies Incorporated by Reference, Policy 523 – Policies Incorporated by Reference, Policy 524 – Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy, Policy 602 – Organization of School Calendar and School Day, Policy 603 – Curriculum Development, Policy 707 – Transportation of Public School Students, Policy 709 – Student Transportation Safety Policy, Policy 802 – Disposition of Obsolete Equipment and Material.
