Regular Meeting of the Board of Education
Independent School District 879, Delano Public Schools
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 879, Delano, Minnesota, was held on Monday, November 18, 2013, at Delano City Hall. The meeting was called to order by the chair at 7:01 p.m. with the following members in attendance: Johnson, Milano, Durick, Black, Larson, Baker. Seguin was absent.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Mr. Andrew Grice, from KDV, presented the FY13 Delano Public Schools independent audit report.
CONSENT AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board approved the regular meeting minutes of 10-28-13, the current budget status with year-to-date adjustments, investment transactions, wire transfers, Minnesota Liquid Assets fund, cash report, revenue and expense fund totals, expense reports and disbursements.
RESOLUTION FOR ACCEPTANCE OF GIFTS (approved unanimously)PERSONNEL (approved unanimously):
Board approved retirements/resignations/terminations, recommendations of employment which include: Resignation of DMS/DHS Custodian; Recommendations of employment for DHS Custodian, DES Grade 1Long-Term Substitute, CE Youth Football Coach; Leaves of Absence for DHS Mathematics Teacher, DES Media Assistant and DES Early Childhood Special Education Paraprofessional.

Board heard the following administrative reports: Superintendent Schoen reported of 1st quarter progress on the Strategic Plan, Google Drive training, Professional Development, Tiger Tech Time and the district’s Facilities Plan; Ms.Klinkner reported on American Education Week, donations and volunteering at DMS, Homework Help and Encore and the annual Global Service Project; Dr.Heil reported on post-season athletic team tournaments, 2nd Act Auditorium Renovation Project and Give to the Max Day, SciTech, student test results and the World’s Best Workforce legislation; Ms. Reeder reported on the district p-card rebate, life and long-term disability insurance quotes and the Truth in Taxation meeting which will be held on December 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., in the Delano High School Media Center; Ms. Johnson reported on Delano’s Old Fashioned Christmas, Wee Tiger Preschool, ECFE, Tiger Kids Club, Destination ImagiNation ,Youth as Resources, and the CE gymnastics program. Student Board Representatives Alex Grant and Abby Hutchins reported on student involvement and activities around the district.
Board heard reports from board members regarding Wright Technical Center.
OLD BUSINESS (approved unanimously)
Second reading of policies due to substantive and/or legal reference changes: Policy 215-Student School Board Representatives, Policy 425-Professional Development, Policy 601-Goals and Objectives of the Education Program, Policy 616-School District System Accountability, Policy 618-Assessment of Student Achievement, Policy 620-Credit for Learning, Policy 624-On-Line Learning Options.
NEW BUSINESS (approved unanimously)
Set date for January organizational meeting for Monday, January 6, 2014, 7:00 p.m., at Delano City Hall. First read of policy due to substantive and/or legal reference changes: Policy 604-Instructional Curriculum.

City of LorettoNotice of Public Hearing
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Loretto will hold a Truth in Taxation public hearing to present the proposed levy and operating budget regarding the amount of property taxes it is proposing to collect to pay for the costs of services the City will provide in 2014. The proposed levy for the General Fund is $337,695. An additional monthly charge on the Loretto utility bill will be discussed. This charge of approximately $7.50/month/account would cover the amount of depreciation of assets in the Water Fund. The public hearing will be held during the regular scheduled Council meeting on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, 7:00 p.m. or as soon thereafter as possible in the Council Chambers at 279 N. Medina Street, Loretto, MN 55357. All persons are welcome to attend the public meeting to express their opinions on the budget, the proposed amount of the property tax levy, and the proposed additional charge on the utility bill. Written and oral comments will be accepted.
