UNOFFICIAL SCHOOL BOARD MINUTESI.S.D. #466, BOARD OF EDUCATION7:00 PM REGULAR BOARD MEETING, MARCH 28, 2016 DASSEL-COKATO BOARD ROOM
In partnership with our communities, Dassel-Cokato Public Schools will provide all learners opportunities designed to maximize their potential and promote lifelong learning.
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 466 (Dassel-Cokato, Minnesota) was duly held in the Dassel-Cokato Board Room, Cokato, Minnesota, on Monday, March 28, 2016.
McConkey called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
The following members were present: Clemen, Aho, Nelson, McConkey, Linder and Bender. The following were absent: none.
The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance.
Motion by Bender, seconded by Clemen, accepting the agenda as printed. Motion carried unanimously.
Mikayla Hackbarth, daughter of Amanda Sebring and Benjamin Hackbarth, was presented with the January Russel A. Johnson Courtesy and Respect Award.
Tim Johnson, son of Dennis and Kari Johnson, was presented with the March Russel A. Johnson Courtesy and Respect Award.
The FFA Novice Parliamentary Procedure Team gave a demonstration.
Motion by Linder, seconded by Nelson, approving Competitive Cheerleading as an activity beginning in 2016-17. Activity Director Thinensen and Cheer Coaches Veith and Larson presented the proposal and answered questions. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Nelson, seconded by Clemen, approving payment of bills as presented including payroll, hand payables and contingency totaling $2,057,364.31 Motion carried unanimously.
Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) Report: None
Technology Report: None
MAWSECO Report: Bender submitted a written report
Community Education Report: None
Business Manager’s Report: Business Manager Palmer reported expenditures are in line with budget through the end of the ninth month of the fiscal year and reviewed the investment report with the board. Business Manager Palmer also reported the District is eligible to participate in the summer meal program through Cokato Elementary. The application is due in early May.

Linder, Nelson, and McConkey shared information from sessions they attended at the January MSBA Conference.
Bender submitted written thoughts on the Hall of Fame.
Motion by Bender, seconded by Clemen, approving all consent items, which included approval of the minutes from the February 22, 2016 Regular Board Meeting. Approval of Wire transfers made on February 23rd for $125,000, February 29th for $655,000, March 10th for $185,000, and March 15th for $865,000. Personnel Items: Employment of Donald Olson as a part-time custodian(5.5 hrs) at ALC/Cokato Elementary effective 3/1/2016, Employment of Emily Miller as a middle school special needs paraeducator effective 3/2/2016, Assignment of James Frickstad as spring play director, Assignment of Brenda Johnson and Staci Barth as colorguard instructors, Termination of employment for Rosita Aguilera as the part-time custodian at the ALC/Cokato Elementary, Resignation of June Pawelk as night lead custodian effective 3/28/2016, Retirement/ Resignation of Margaret Pokornowski as Cokato’s Administrative Secretary at the end of the 2015-2016 school year, Resignation of Jonathan Larson as a middle school instructor effective the end of the 2015-16 school year, Resignation of Jessica Luebker as a middle school instructor effective the end of the 2015-16 school year, Resignation of Tonja Aho as the Middle School’s Administrative Secretary at the end of the 2015-2016 school year, Retirement/Resignation of Colleen Compton as Community Education Programs Coordinator effective July 11, 2016, Approval of 8 weeks unpaid child care leave for Dassel Elementary Paraeducator Marissa Kraushaar from 4/7/16 to 6/1/2016. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Aho, seconded by Nelson, approving Gina Aho for a three year CAC term. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Clemen, seconded by Nelson, approving changes to Policy #201 Legal Status of the School Board. Motion passed 5 – 1 with Aho voting against.
Motion by Linder, seconded by Bender, authorizing Business Manager Palmer to sell the Vocational House. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Linder, seconded by Aho, approving spending up to 75% of the 2016-17 budget in 2015-16. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Aho, seconded by Nelson, closing 2016-17 Seventh Grade to open enrollment. Motion carried unanimously.

In partnership with our communities, Dassel-Cokato Public Schools will provide all learners opportunities designed to maximize their potential and promote lifelong learning.
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 466 (Dassel-Cokato, Minnesota) was duly held in the Dassel-Cokato Board Room, Cokato, Minnesota, on Thursday, April 14, 2016.
Chairman McConkey called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
The following members were present: Aho, Nelson, McConkey, Clemen, Linder, and Bender. The following were absent: none.
The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance.
Motion by Nelson, seconded by Bender, accepting the agenda as written. Motion carried unanimously.
Presentation on Career and Technical Education (CTE) facility changes including remodeling in the high school, an addition to the middle school, and a new building that would house the ALC and a large shop area for mechanics and other purposes. The board informally supported the project and gave permission to continue to refine the plans focusing on a possible November 2016 bond vote.
Being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:44 PM.
