Regular Meeting of the Board of Education
Independent School District 879,Delano Public Schools
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 879, Delano, Minnesota, was held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at Delano City Hall. The meeting was called to order by the chair at 5:46 p.m. with the following members in attendance: Larson, Black, Seguin, Briesemeister Johnson, Depa (who arrived at 5:47 p.m.) and Milano (who arrived at 5:58 p.m.). Absent: None.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board reviewed discussion items: strategic planning process, POC update, PAC and auditorium fees, school board listening session feedback, student school board representative report, traffic and pedestrian safety, FY18 preliminary audit, policy reviews.
Board heard presentation on World’s Best Workforce efforts and testing results.
CONSENT AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board approved the regular meeting minutes of 10/22/18 and the special meeting minutes of 11/15/18. It also approved the current budget status with year-to-date adjustments, investment transactions, construction bond investment transactions, wire transfers, Minnesota Liquid Asset Fund, cash report, revenue and expense fund totals, expense reports and disbursements.
PERSONNEL (approved unanimously)
Board approved retirements/resignations/terminations, recommendations of employment and contract changes, including:
Retirements/Resignations/Terminations: DHS dishwasher, DHS math teacher, TAC supervisor, DHS cook. Recommendations of Employment: Boys dive coach, TKC student aide, DHS food service cook, JV gymnastics coach, long-term sub at DES, DHS dishwasher, activities official, student volleyball coach, head softball coach, DIS SPED long-term sub, 7-8 gymnastics coach (2), JV girls hockey coach, girls asst. soccer coach. Contract Changes/Approvals/Position Changes: MSRS transfer agreement, 2018-2020 custodial contract. Leaves of Absence: DHS language arts teacher, DHS custodian, DES teacher.
ADMINISTRATIVE AND BOARD REPORTS Board heard the following administrative reports: Superintendent Schoen shared information about building projects and the strategic plan process. B. Voight shared about Zero Hour Wednesday opportunities, a technology replacement schedule, and website updates. S. Heil shared about feedback regarding the fall play, the registration process, campus traffic and the Jingle Run event. D. Schuler shared the theme of gratitude in November, LDI gratitude visits, and the MnDOT Bridge in a Bag program. M. Reeder reported that the Truth in Taxation meeting would be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the high school media center, and the audit would also be presented that evening. D. Johnson shared about concerts in the park, Old Fashioned Christmas events, and various activities. Board heard reports from: MAWSECO, school board listening session, Wright Tech Center and Professional Development.
NEW BUSINESS (approved unanimously) Board approved the first and only read of Policy 201 – Legal Status of the School Board, and Policy 404 – Employment Background checks, due to non-substantive and legal reference changes; approved the first read of Policy 104 – School District Mission Statement, Policy 406 – Public and Private Personnel Data, Policy 603 – Curriculum Development, and Policy 616 – School District System Accountability, due to substantive and/or legal reference changes; approved student trip to Germany; and approved a resolution authorizing issuance of certificates of election.
