Regular Meeting of the Board of Education
Independent School District 879, Delano Public Schools
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 879, Delano, Minnesota, was held on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, in the Delano High School media center. The meeting was called to order by the chair at 5:48 p.m. with the following members in attendance: Johnson, Rosenow, Black, Seguin, Roeser, Depa and Briesemeister. Absent: None.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board reviewed discussion items: DHS band trip, committee assignments, policy review, Meet and Confer Committee report, Calendar Committee report, student board representatives report, delegate assembly report.
Truth in taxation hearing (Business Manager Mary Reeder), World’s Best Workforce (Director of Teaching and Learning Joe Vieau).
CONSENT AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board approved the meeting minutes from Nov. 25, 2019, and the current budget status with year-to-date adjustments, investment transactions, construction bond investment transactions, wire transfers, Minnesota Liquid Asset Fund, cash report, revenue and expense fund totals, expense reports and disbursements.
PERSONNEL (approved unanimously)
Board approved retirements/resignations/terminations and recommendations for employment, including:
Retirements/Resignations/Terminations: DES paraprofessional. Recommendations for Employment: Tiger youth gymnastics coach, B squad dance coach.
Board heard the following administrative reports: Superintendent Schoen reported on the literacy initiative and two-hour late starts, as well as the budget feedback process. B. Voight reported on plans for the first semester celebration in January. S. Heil reported on upcoming Jingle Run festivities and the registration process. D. Schuler reported on the elementary character theme for the month, community service efforts and the United Way fund drive. M. Reeder said work is beginning on FY20 and FY21 budgets. D. Johnson reported on Old Fashioned Christmas and associated Community Education events, the new brochure and website, TAC memberships and more.
Board heard reports from: MAWSECO and the Wright Technical Center.
OLD BUSINESS (approved unanimously)
Board approved the second read of four policies due to substantive changes: Policy 412 - Expense Reimbursement; Policy 414 - Mandated Reporting of Child Neglect or Physical or Sexual Abuse; Policy 510 - School Activities; and Policy 709 - Student Transportation Safety Policy.
Board approved the LLCC extended trip request; the first and only read of Policy 417 - Chemical Use/Abuse, due to non-substantive changes; and the first read of Policy 516 – Student Medication, due to substantive and legal reference changes. The board also certified the 2019 Pay 2020 Final Property Tax Levy.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. The preceding is a summary of the unofficial minutes.
