A special meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 879, Delano, Minnesota, was held on Thursday, May 28, 2020, via teleconference. The meeting was called to order by the chair at 5:04 p.m. with the following members in attendance: Johnson, Black, Seguin, Rosenow, Depa, Roeser and Briesemeister. Absent: None.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA (approved unanimously)
CLOSED SESSION TO DISCUSS CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
Superintendent Matt Schoen updated the board on the status of principal negotiations. The board discussed financial parameters for the negotiations.
Board chair Seguin called the meeting out of closed session and adjourned the meeting at 5:49 p.m. The preceding is a summary of the unofficial minutes. The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 879, Delano, Minnesota, was held on Monday, May 18, 2020, via teleconference. The meeting was called to order by the chair at 5:47 p.m. with the following members in attendance: Johnson, Black, Seguin, Rosenow, Depa, Roeser and Briesemeister. Absent: None.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA (approved unanimously)
WORK SESSION
Board reviewed discussion items: DIS handbook review, DES handbook review, FY20 and FY21 Long-Term Facilities Maintenance budgets, distance learning grading procedures, COVID-19/distance learning update, policy review, 2020-21 meal prices and Student School Board Representatives.
PROGRAM REVIEW
District Communications Update (Paul Downer)
CONSENT AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board approved the meeting minutes from April 27, 2020, and the current budget status with year-to-date adjustments, investment transactions, construction bond investment transactions, wire transfers, Minnesota Liquid Asset Fund, cash report, revenue and expense fund totals, expense reports and disbursements.
RESOLUTION OF ACCEPTANCE OF GIFTS (approved unanimously)
PERSONNEL (approved unanimously)
Board approved retirements/resignations/terminations, recommendations for employment, contract changes/approvals/position changes, and leaves of absence, including: Retirements/Resignations/Terminations: DHS DCD teacher, TKC classroom aide, DHS social studies teacher and head golf coach. Contracted New Hires: DES EBD teacher. Contract Changes/Approvals/Position Changes: DIS LA/Reading Interventionist to DHS Language Arts Teacher. Leaves of Absence: DIS fifth-grade SPED teacher.
ADMINISTRATIVE AND BOARD REPORTS
Board heard the following administrative reports: Superintendent Schoen reported on the school year’s end and planning for summer and next fall. B. Voight reported on hiring for 2020-21, staff notes about distance learning in preparation for the fall, and the sixth-grade morning announcement videos. S. Heil reported on the transition in grading procedures, facilities improvements, material pick-up planning and graduation planning. D. Schuler reported on distance learning efforts, the purchase of Seesaw, year-end celebrations, TKC hosting preparations and the retirement of Linda Schmidt. M. Reeder reported on upcoming items for board approval, including long-term facilities maintenance documents and election documents. D. Johnson reported on the re-opening of certain programs with additional restrictions. Board heard reports from: Student School Board Representatives, MAWSECO and the Wright Technical Center.
OLD BUSINESS (approved unanimously)
Board approved the second read of Policy 509 – Enrollment of Nonresident Students, and the second read of Policy 616 – School District System Accountability, due to substantive changes.
NEW BUSINESS (approved unanimously)
Board approved a distance learning grading policy change, the DHS handbook for 2020-21, the Wright Technical Center Long-Term Facility Maintenance resolution, a flex learning plan and MOA, bread and milk quotes for 2020-21, surplus property for sale and/or recycling; and the first read of Policy 506 – Student Discipline, and the first read of Policy 512 – School Sponsored Student Publications, due to substantive changes.
