Rebecca Zander to attend UMD

Rebecca Zander, daughter of Quay and Nancy Zander of Waverly, will attend University of Minnesota-Duluth for the 2013-14 academic year, where she plans to major in integrated elementary education and special education. Rebecca will graduate Sunday, June 2 from Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School.

Area students honored

Tyler Miller, son of Russell and Beverly Miller of Howard Lake, recently received a $500 scholarship from First District Association in Litchfield. Tyler will be attending Ridgewater College for dairy management and agri-business.

Brittney Utne of Howard Lake was recently awarded a $1,000 Olga Satre Hart Scholarship for Education Students for fall 2013 semester at St. Cloud State University, where she is a student. Among the eligibility requirements, a student must be majoring in education with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Cianna Bedford, daughter of David and Shilon Bedford of New Germany, was honored for her academic achievement of earning a grade point average of 3.6 or higher at St. Olaf College in Northfield, where she is a psychology major.

Students graduate from college

Kaitlin Hartkopf of Howard Lake graduated spring 2013 session from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture and biological sciences.

Three area students graduated May 17 from Minnesota State University in Moorhead. Kristina Grossinger of Mayer, a graduate of Spring Lake Park High School, graduated with a master of science degree in educational leadership; Rachel Loomis of Watertown, a graduate of Watertown-Mayer High School, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree and a bachelor of arts degree in life science education, and biology; and Danielle Wente of Howard Lake, a graduate of Dassel-Cokato High School, graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mass communications.

Alan Holasek of Lester Prairie graduated May 10 cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in theatre arts from Concordia University in St. Paul. Students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a grade point average of 3.4 to 3.59.

Birth: Amelia Faye Badini

Justin and Debbie Badini of Marquette, MI are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Amelia Faye Badini, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital. Amelia weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces; and measured 19.5 inches long. She was welcomed home by her big sister, Adelaide Rose.

Grandparents are Ray and Patricia Munson of Waverly, and David and Deborah Badini of Saginaw, MI. Great-grandparents are Bill and Jo Wilhelm of Saginaw, MI, and Jerry and Faye Badini of Pace, FL.

Birth: Dominic Ayden Kortez Guerra

Albert Guerra Jr. and Kaisha Hagen of Gaylord are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Dominic Ayden Kortez Guerra, Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Glencoe Regional Health Services. Dominic weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces; and measured 19.25 inches long. He was welcomed home by his brother, Kayson Emileo James Guerra.

Grandparents are Lisa Hagen of Winsted, James and Victoria Hagen of Brooklyn Center, and Albert and Tanya Guerra of Gaylord.
