Vern D. Jones obituary


Vern D. Jones, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Cokato Manor.

Services were conducted at New Life Assembly of God Church,
Cokato on Saturday, Nov. 15 with the Rev. Jamie Smedsrud officiating. Organist
was Sheri Johnson and special music by Vern’s daughters.
Interment was in Howard Lake Cemetery. Casket bearers were
his nine grandsons, Allen, Dale, Lonnie, Charles, Curtis and Aaron Jones,
Christopher Weber, Kevin Umhoefer and Robert Forare.
Vern was born Sept. 4, 1915 in Howard Lake to Harry and
Violet Jones. He attended Riverside School. He married Hazel Nivala May
20, 1939. They lived in the Annandale and Cokato area all their married
life.
His occupations included farming, trucking, carpenter and
bricklayer. In 1961, Vern and Hazel purchased the West Albion Country Store,
and operated it until 1969. They made their home near the Cokato area, and
they moved into the Cokato Manor in 1992.
Survivors include seven children, Bonnie of Marana, Ariz.;
Gary (Joanne) of Cokato, Curtis (Alice) of Levanon, Mo., Daniel (Nancy)
of Dassel, Lynn Forare (Donald) of Cokato, Rita Weber (Karl) of Sioux Falls,
S.D. and Susan Umhoefer (Ted) of Dayton, Minn.; 21 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren;
one brother, Glen Jones of Raytown, Mo. and three half-brothers Kenneth
Gausman of Cokato, William Gausman of Brooklyn Center and Robert Gausman
of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and twin
great-grandsons.
