Sylvester Jacobus Schumacher obituary


Sylvester Jacobus Schumacher was born to Adam and Gertrude
Schumacher in Hennepin County Jan. 26, 1910.
In 1931, he acquired an 80-acre parcel of land across from
the family farm on Co. Rd. 11, just west of Loretto. Sylvester’s aspirations
were to have the best milk producing cattle in his dairy association and
grow high quality crops, which he achieved.
Sylvester married Mary Angeline Elliott Sept. 18, 1935.
Together they had three daughters, Kathleen Mary born Dec. 7, 1937; Sylvia
Gertrude born Oct. 27, 1941, and Marguerite Ann (Muggs) born Nov. 3, 1945.
He retired from farming and sold the land and buildings
in 1970. Sylvester and Mary moved to their new home in Medina where he continued
to reside after Mary’s death in 1979.
He married Marie Monica Cavanaugh Sept. 24, 1980. Due to
his health in March 1996, Sylvester and Marie moved to Delano where he resided
until his death, Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, after a struggle with cancer.
His passions in life included square dancing, ballroom
dancing, traveling, bowling, card playing, snowmobiling, fishing, flower
gardening, and the game of golf during his retirement years. He also treated
himself to many new cars.
Sylvester is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary,
and daughter, Sylvia Koch.
He is survived by wife, Marie; daughters and sons-in-laws,
Kathleen and Jim Arbeiter, Marguerite and Pete Zeigler, and son-in-law,
George Koch; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kelly and Mark Hutchings
(Karlie and Jason), Mike and Jane Arbeiter, Kyle and Steve Hull (Daniel
and Lauren), Murray and Coleen Arbeiter (Dakota), Pam and Dean Franz (Eric
and Mary), Sue and Jim Grimm (Sylvia), Annette and Mike Iburg (Amanda),
Pat and Kim Koch (Brittany and Dexten), Mike Koch, Jeff and Rachael Koch
(Tori), Chad Koch, Melissa and Greg Aseheman (Rachael), Wendy and Jeff Annexstad,
Amy and Shawn Nugent (Travis and Ryan).
Visitation and a prayer service were Monday, Dec. 8 at
the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Dec. 9 at St. George’s
Catholic Church, Long Lake with the Rev. Tim Dolan officiating. Music was
by Rosemary Gleason, accompanist and Toots Sebering, soloist.
Interment was in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Loretto,
Minn. Pallbearers were Pat, Jeff, and Mike Koch, Mike Arbeiter, Murray Arbeiter
and Shawn Nugent.
