James G. Baird obituary 2/25/98


James G. Baird (Jim) was born Nov. 19, 1911 at Winsted,
Minn., the son of James and Ida (Weibel) Baird. He was baptized and confirmed
at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted. On Dec. 4, 1935, he was united
in marriage to Eva A. Birkholz. This union was blessed with the birth of
two children, daughter LeAnn and son, James Jr.
Jim Sr. had a love for the land and spent his life farming.
Throughout his life, he was active in promoting agriculture. He kept up
with current issues and participated in several organizations in the community
and throughout McLeod County.
Jim was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church
serving many years as an officer of various boards. He was instrumental
in the organization and establishment of the congregation.
On March 19,1989 his wife Eva was called to her eternal
rest.
On Nov. 19,1989 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jim was
united in marriage to Dorothy M. Gatz. They made their home in Winsted,
and he enjoyed his extended family.
On February 28, 1998, at the Winsted Care Center, James
G. Baird, Sr. was called to his eternal rest at the age of 86 years, 3 months
and 9 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Ida Baird,
first wife Eva A. Baird, brother Agur (Kutz) Baird and sister Grayce Murray.
James is survived by his wife Dorothy Baird; daughter LeAnn
Horsch and husband Donald of Howard Lake, son James Baird, Jr. and wife
Ruth of Winsted; nine grandchildren, Steve Horsch of Detroit, Mich., Bruce
and Barb Horsch of Watertown, Robin and Drew Ekstrom of Vail, CO, Renda
Baird of Eden Prairie, RaVon Polzin of Minneapolis, Jay and Lori Baird of
Howard Lake, Rakel and Kevin Schroeder of Minnetonka, RaLeah and Rachel
Baird of Winsted and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by one sister-in-law Evangeline
Birkholz of Howard Lake; two stepchildren, Paul and wife Marilyn Gatz of
Winsted, Paulette and husband Dean Jopp of Mayer; five stepgrandchildren
and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by the Chilson Funeral Home of Winsted.
Services were held March 3, 1998 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the
Reverends Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist
was Kay Knutson with special music by soloist Bruce Gatz.
Interment was at the Winsted Public Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Wayne Birkholz John Baird, William Baird, Donald Baird, Martin Weibel
and Glenn Weibel.
