Gertrude Streufert Christensen obituary 1/8/99


Gertrude Streufert Christensen, 86, of Ahwatukee Foothills,
Phoenix, Ariz., died in her home, Friday, Jan. 8, 1999.
Gertrude established her home with her sister, Hildegarde,
and her husband, Frank Crane, at 11239 S. Tomah St., Ahwatukee Foothills,
Phoenix, Ariz. She was a member of Mt. View Lutheran Church.
Gertrude was born Nov. 24, 1912, to the Rev. Alfred and
Lydia Streufert in Bertha, Minn. She attended elementary school in Annandale,
Minn. and high school in Buffalo and Gaylord, Minn.
Upon completing her nursing degree, which prepared her
for a lifetime nursing career in hospitals, Gertrude answered a demand for
nurses on the home front during World War II, as well as during the polio
crisis of the 1950s.
In 1956, Gertrude joined the nursing staff at Minneapolis
Veterans Hospital and was transferred to Tucson Veterans Hospital in 1960,
where she worked until she retired.
Gertrude is survived by four brothers: Herbert of Selah,
Wash.; Edgar and wife, Verona, of Minneapolis; Victor and wife, Kay, of
Lindsborg, Kan.; and Alfred and wife, Laurie, of Minneapolis; two sisters,
Cordelia Koepke and husband, Edwin, of Denver, Colo., and Hildegarde Crane
and husband, Frank, of Ahwatukee Foothills, Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters-in-law,
Selma and Adeline Streufert and Phyllis Hunt; as well as many nieces and
nephews.
She is further survived by four step-children: Gerald Christensen
of Duluth, Minn.; Ingor Jacobs of McCook, Neb.; Norma Wernowsky of Northfield,
Ohio; and Dodie Holmstrom of Circle Pines, Minn.; and 14 grandchildren.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Hans Christensen;
a step-son, Sven Christensen; brothers, Mark, Bert, and Carl Streufert;
and a sister-in-law, Norma Streufert.
A memorial service was on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Mt. View
Lutheran Church in Arizona.
Her interment service will be in Minnesota at the Lutheran
Church of the Triune God, 5827 Humboldt Ave. N., Brooklyn Center, Minn.
, on Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 at 11:30 a.m.
