Leland “Ole” Lloyd Pettit, Sr. obituary, 6/27/2000


Leland “Ole” Lloyd Pettit, Sr., age 85 of Howard
Lake, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at St. Mary’s Nursing Home, Winsted.
Leland was born in Victor Township near Rice Lake March
21, 1915, the son of Cyrus Addison and Anna Christine (Ring) Pettit.
He attended school at Rice Lake and spoke often of his
teacher, Mrs. Ardis Lorentz.
On Aug. 11, 1937, Leland married Dorothy Ostlund. God blessed
their marriage with five children: Lucille (Myron) Lahr; Barbara (Thomas)
Schmieg; Ruth (Don) Johnson; Sandy (LeRoy) Zander; and Leland (Sonny) (Doris)
Pettit; as well as 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Leland farmed on the home site south of Howard Lake for
many years. He later was employed by Adolfson and Peterson doing bridge
construction in the metro area, and also was employed by Don’s Masonry of
Cokato before retiring.
Leland was a member of First Baptist Church of Cokato.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. “Ole”
and Dorothy journeyed to Mexico, visiting Tom and Barb on the mission field.
In addition to his children, “Ole” is survived
by a sister, Lorraine Hall of Ardmore, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Florence Pettit
of Cokato, Gladys Pettit of Howard Lake, Lucille Jerome and Eleanor Ostlund,
both of Minneapolis; a brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Harriet Thurson
of Minneapolis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents;
brothers, Art, Paul, Stuart, and Bedford (Spike) Pettit; sisters, Adeline
Tuey, Ethel Glessing, Grace Evenski, and Edna Hawkins; and a son-in-law,
Donald Johnson.
Funeral services were Friday, June 30, 11 a.m., at First
Baptist Church, Cokato, with the Rev. Dan Swanson officiating. Music was
by Beth Roelofs. Dwayne Borg sang “If You Could See Me Now” and
Christel Bauers, accompanied by Doris Pettit, sang “In The Garden.”
Interment followed at Cokato City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Craig Ankrum, David Johnson, Ken Lahr,
David Bauers, Dennis Johnson, Nathan Schmieg, and Jason Zander.
Visitation was Thursday, June 29, at Swanson-Peterson Funeral
Home, Howard Lake, from 4 to 8:30 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.;
and continued for one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.
Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Cokato and Howard Lake,
handled the arrangements.
