Vinetta Emma Tonn obituary 5/18/99


Funeral services for Vinetta Emma (Mrs. Walter) Tonn, age
82 of Minneapolis, and formerly of Glencoe, were Tuesday, May 18, 1999,
11 a.m., at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. She died Thursday,
May 13, 1999, at the City of Lake Transitional Care Center in Minneapolis.
Vinetta was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Belle Plaine, Minn.,
the daughter of John and Agnes Klaustermeier Bergmann. She was baptized
as an infant by the Rev. P. Haupt at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belle
Plaine; and confirmed May 17, 1931 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester
Prairie by the Rev. A. Spleiss. She attended school through graduation.
On Nov. 24, 1938, Vinette was united in marriage to Walter
Tonn at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Princeton, Minn., by the Rev. W. Tinge.
The couple spent their married life in McLeod County.
Walter passed away in August, 1985, and Vinetta remained
on the farm until 1987, when she moved into Millie Beneke Manor in Glencoe.
In 1993, she entered a board and care home in Hutchinson,
and then, in 1995, she moved to the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center. For
the past three months, Vinetta had resided at the City of Lake Transitional
Care Center in Minneapolis, where she entered her eternal rest at the age
of 82 years, two months, and 27 days.
Vinetta is preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
her son, the Rev. Milan Tonn; three brothers, Roland Bergmann, Sylvester
Bergmann and Melvin Bergmann; and two sisters, Viola Narr and Alinda Eickhoff.
She is survived by a daughter, Janice Tonn of St. Paul;
three grandchildren: Krista Tonn of Pontiac, Mich., Katherine Lockhart (husband,
Ron) of Detroit, Mich., and Paul Tonn (wife, Tammy) of Fort Lauderdale,
Fla.; and five great-grandchildren.
Vinetta is further survived by three brothers and two sisters:
Leland Bergmann (wife, Viola) of Glencoe, Gilbert Bergmann (wife, Goodrun)
of Coon Rapids, Harlan Bergmann of Fayetteville, Ark., Eleanora Warner of
Princeton, and Leona Manke (husband, Roy) of St. Paul; and a daughter-in-law,
Janet Tonn of Farmington Hills, Mich.
The Rev. Gerald Schwanke officiated at the funeral services.
The organist was Kay Gueningsman and the congregational hymns were “What
a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “Abide
With Me.” Special music was provided by Jean Birkholz and her solos
were “Softly and Tenderly” and “So Nimm Denn Meine Haende.”
Visitation was Monday, May 17, at the Paul-McBride Funeral
Chapel with prayer service at 8 p.m. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were Wesley Schmidt, George Pavelek, Mary
Faust, Dwaine Zebell, Donald Dammann, and Gerhard Bergmann.
