Doris V. Brockoff
Doris V. Birkholz Brockoff, age 87, of Cokato died Saturday,
Oct. 20, 2001 at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
She was born July 15, 1914 in rural Dassel, Meeker County,
the daughter of Levine and Clara Benson Forsberg.
Doris was baptized at Stockholm Lutheran Church, rural
Cokato, Aug. 8, 1914. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism
and confirmed in the Christian faith at Stockholm Lutheran Church April
28, 1929.
Doris Forsberg was joined in holy marriage to Lenus Birkholz
at her parents home July 23, 1932. The Rev. Swan Johnson officiated at the
wedding ceremony.
Doris and Lenus made their home on a farm in Victor Township,
and God blessed their marriage with four children. Mr. Birkholz preceded
his wife in death in 1989.
Doris Forsberg Birkholz was joined in holy marriage to
Elmer G. Brockoff at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake April 16,
1993. The Rev. Michael Nirva officiated at the wedding ceremony.
Doris was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church
in Howard Lake.
She was formerly employed for many years at St. Mary’s
Care Center, Winsted, and belonged to St. Mary’s Auxiliary.
In addition to her first husband, Doris was preceded in
death by a great-granddaughter, Courtney Rath; her parents; and by four
brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer G. Brockoff of Cokato;
children, Patricia (Clayton) Quast of Brainerd, Jane (Dale) Enwiller of
Delano, Gary (Marilyn) Birkholz of Nokomis, Fla., and Berlyn (Elaine) Birkholz
of Buffalo; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Fern (Ken)
Lambert of Apple Valley and Adelle Stein of Minneapolis; other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services for Doris Birkholz Brockoff were Wednesday,
Oct. 24, 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake. The Rev. Michael
Nirva officiated, and interment followed at St. James Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted Tuesday,
Oct. 23 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. A prayer service was at 8 p.m.
Nancy Butterfass was the organist for the funeral service.
Paul Fieldseth sang “On Eagles’ Wings.”
“How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace – How
Sweet the Sound,” and “Abide with Me” were sung as congregational
hymns.
David Birkholz, Jonathan Birkholz, Brian Quast, Clayton
J. Quast, Josh LaGrew, and Daniel Radtke served as the casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
