Howard Clyde Irving Grangroth, Sr.
Howard Clyde Irving Grangroth ,Sr., age 82, of Waverly,
died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at the Ebenezer Covenant Home, Buffalo
He was born in Calumet, Mich. Nov. 9, 1918, the son of
Herman and Alina Davo Grangroth.
Howard Grangroth and Dollrus “Dolly” Jewett were
joined in holy marriage May 19, 1942, in Buffalo. God blessed their marriage
with 10 children.
Howard farmed in Marysville Township and also worked in
road construction for many years.
He was a faithful member of the Union Presbyterian Church,
Waverly. Howard was a former church elder and often cared for the church’s
grounds.
Howard belonged to the International Union of Operating
Engineers Local number 49; the Construction and General Laborers Local
number 563, and to the Waverly Senior Citizens.
Howard enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, and playing
cards.
Howard was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Marie
Mosch Dec. 24, 1999; a grandson, Joseph Grangroth; his parents; a brother,
Harry Grangroth; and sisters, Bernice North, Helen Peterson, Hazel Epple,
and Anna Bohjanen.
Howard is survived by his wife, “Dolly;” children,
Ruby (Don) Pfau of Mesa, Ariz., Howard (Susan) Grangroth, Jr of Waverly,
Leonard (Diane) Grangroth of Howard Lake, Harlan (Yvonne) Grangroth of Waverly,
Mary Ann (Guy) Stitt of Bremerton, Wash., Betsy (Simon) Schotl of St. Cloud,
Rick (Madonna) Grangroth and Ronnie (Cindy) Grangroth, all of Waverly, and
Joni Decker of Howard Lake.
He is further survived by a son-in-law, Dick Mosch of Waverly;
34 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers and a sister, Robert
(Luella) Grangroth of Brainerd, Harvey (Verna) Grangroth, and Eva (Don)
Wuollet, all of Cokato; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Grangroth
of Utah,Vernon “Sonny” (Carol) Jewett of Waverly, Totten Jewett
of Buffalo, Daisy Russ of Minneapolis, and Ione Jewett of Anoka; nieces,
nephews, and a special friend, Melvin A. Demarais.
Funeral services for Howard Grangroth, Sr. were conducted
Monday, Aug. 20, 2 p.m., at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church, with the Rev.
Bruce Hillyer officiating.
Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery.
Friends called at the Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, Sunday,
Aug. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Robert Mortveld had a prayer service
at 7 p.m.
Arnie Wannebo sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and
“Amazing Grace.”
Pat Grangroth, Jeff Mosch, Donald Grangroth, Dan Mosch,
Paul Neumann, and Michael Stitt served as casketbearers.
Memorials are suggested for the Parkinson Association of
Minnesota.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
