Ralph E. Rathmanner
Ralph E. Rathmanner, age 78, of Winsted, died early Saturday,
Dec. 22, 2001 at his residence.
He was born April 27, 1923 in Winsted, the son of Joseph
and Katherine “Kate” Artmann Rathmanner.
Ralph graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1941 and
honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War
II. His military service took him to the war’s Pacific Theater, and he was
in the battle at Leyte Gulf.
Ralph Rathmanner and Dorothy Osmek were joined in holy
marriage at St. George Catholic Church in Glencoe July 29, 1948. God blessed
their marriage with four children.
Following his return from service, Ralph started working
at Citizens State Bank of Winsted. He later became a state field representative
for the Catholic Order of Foresters, and trained their sales force. Ralph
was also a former COF State Court Trustee.
In the mid 1960s, Ralph returned to Citizens State Bank
in Winsted as a cashier. In 1973, he became the bank’s vice president, and
shortly thereafter became it’s president. He retired from the bank Nov.
21, 1989.
Ralph was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church
in Winsted, and was an active member and a past commander of American Legion
Post 407.
He also belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters Holy
Trinity Court 1054, VFW Post 9232, and was a former president of the Winsted
Civic & Commerce Association.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; a brother,
Alex Rathmanner; two sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Stoohs and Delores
Schlagel; and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Anna Osmek.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy E. Rathmanner;
children, JoAnn White of Roseville, Tom (Rosie) Rathmanner of Howard Lake,
Gary Rathmanner of Winsted, and Kathryn Rathmanner (and fiance Bruce “Buck”
Uecker) of Montrose; grandchildren, Elise White, Michael Rathmanner; Kate,
Dana, and Eric Rathmanner; and Joseph Uecker.
He is further survived by his brothers and sisters, Clem
(Dorothy) Rathmanner of Minnetonka, Marie Campbell Haskell of Billings,
Mont.; Jerome (Mary Ann) Rathmanner of Wilmington, Delaware, and Clifford
(Luanne) Rathmanner of Boca Raton, Fla.; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law,
Mary Lamp and Leo (Claire) Osmek; nieces, nephews, many other relatives
and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ralph Rathmanner was Thursday,
Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father
Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant, and interment with military rites followed
at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted Wednesday,
Dec. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. An American Legion ritual was conducted at 6:45
p.m., COF service at 7 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Ralph’s nephews Nick Campbell, David Schlagel, Jim Schlagel,
Joe Schlagel, Terry Rathmanner, Jim Rathmanner; and cousins, Bob Bayerl
and Don Bayerl, served as casket bearers.
Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
