Gladys Opal Glessing-Stolka
Gladys Opal Glessing-Stolka, 72, of Delano, was called
to her eternal rest on June 3, 2001, while at Ridgeview Hospital, Waconia.
Gladys lived exactly 72 years, 1 month and 17 days.
Gladys was born April 20, 1929, in Howard Lake, the daughter
of Roy and Amelia (nee Drawert) Cochran.
She was baptized May 26, 1929, at St. James Lutheran Church,
Howard Lake, by the Rev. C. G. Seltz, and confirmed in her faith at that
same church April 2, 1944, by the Rev. E. N. Seltz.
Gladys married Lloyd Glessing November 6, 1946, at St.
James Church, Howard Lake. This union was blessed with the birth of three
children.
After moving to Delano, Gladys was married to Edward Stolka
February 5, 1983, in their home by a Justice of the Peace. She enjoyed
gardening, bird watching and playing with the grandchildren. As a member
of St. James, Gladys became active in the Lutheran Womens Missionary League.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Amelia
Cochran; two brothers, Gaylen and Gibson Cochran; two sisters, Delores Sexton
and Gloria Asplin; sister-in-law, Donna Cochran; two brothers-in-law, Erwin
Sexton and Harold Asplin; and a stillborn baby boy.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Stolka; her children,
Gail Sherrer, Denise Glessing-Dyreson, and Dennis Glessing; stepchildren,
Doug Stolka, Annette Bendtsen, and Frank Stolka; two brothers, Gordon Cochran
of Howard Lake and Ronnie (Arlene) Cochran of Glenwood; two sisters, Karen
(Rob) Duraine of McGregor, Lois Berg and William Haavisto of Cokato; 15
grandchildren, Tracy Silva, Troy Sherrer, Crystal Sherrer, Jared Glessing,
Jessica Glessing, Dan Nass, Heather, Hilary and Shane Dyreson, Brent Stolka,
Joseph and Matthew Bendtsen, Kevin Stolka, Nathan and Brandon Price; one
great-grandchild, Brenden Silva; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Cochran and
Lorraine Peterson; aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews; and a host of
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted June 6, 2001 at St. James
Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Michael Nirva officiating.
Special music was provided by the Ladies Choir and soloist
Brent Cochran, with Nancy Butterfass serving as organist. Interment was
at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Philip Sexton, Rick Cochran, Jeff Mapes,
Brent Cochran, Mark Cochran and Steve Cochran.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home,
Howard Lake.
