Doris Jane Karau
Doris Jane Karau, age 71, of Waverly, died Tuesday, Feb.
26, 2002, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born March 4, 1930, in Woodland Township, Wright
County, the daughter of Charles Anthony and Sophie Rose (Danek) Brabec.
Doris graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1948. She
later attended secretarial school.
Doris J. Brabec and Curtis Keith Karau were joined in holy
marriage June 3, 1950, in Morris. God blessed their marriage with two children.
Curtis Karau preceded his wife in death July 4, 1958.
Doris was a long-time secretary at Munsingwear in Minneapolis.
After the death of her brother Harold, she moved out to the family farm
in 1965 to run the farm and help take care of her aged father and uncle.

A back injury in the mid 1980s forced her to quit farming.
She, then, worked at Gage Lettershop in Howard Lake until retiring at the
age of 65.
Doris loved her family, especially her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She loved nature and gardening, and took great joy
in watching the birds and deer. She also took pleasure in playing cards
and Yahtzee, doing embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, and collecting coins.
In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death
by her son, Keith Michael Karau Feb. 9, 1992; parents, Charles and Sophie
Brabec; and brothers, Harold and Charles “Bud” Brabec, Jr.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Marie (Martin)
Hertzog of Waverly; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Kennedy, Michelle
(Brad) Miller, Sarah Zimmermann (Dirk Dodge), and Jenna Hertzog, Veronica,
Curtis and Wessley Karau; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Samuel
Kennedy, Sydney Miller, and Joshua Zimmermann.
She is further survived by three sisters, Margaret Brabec,
Lorraine (George) Pearson and Edith (Paul) Howe; many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Doris Karau were Friday, March 1,
1 p.m., at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. Pastor Joel Swedberg officiated.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted Thursday,
Feb. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Sherry Hibma was the organist for the funeral service,
and Stephanie Kennedy the vocalist.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
